Webster Powers Past Lyon 13-5 Behind Explosive Offense and Greifelt’s Eight Strong Innings; Gorloks Advance To SLIAC Championship Game

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Webster University baseball team continued tournament play at the 2026 SLIAC Baseball Tournament with a decision against Lyon College at CarShield Field. The Gorloks trailed briefly early, but the offense recorded a four-run and two three-run innings that secured the 13-5 victory over the Scots. The Gorloks advance to the SLIAC Championship game on May 9th. 

Junior southpaw Ryan Greifelt earned the start on the mound as the Scots opened the game with back-to-back doubles for the 1-0 lead. Greifelt got out of the inning with three consecutive flyouts. In the bottom half, Dalton Groves recorded a two-out walk and advanced to second on a single to center by Nick Wrubluski but both runners were left stranded. 

In the second, Greifelt recorded a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a flyout. In the bottom frame, Ethan Wielt laced a one-out single to center and advanced to second by Talan Hutchings. With two outs, Charlie Pellicer belted a ground-rule down that tied the game at 1-1. 

In the top of the third, Greifelt sent down the Scots in order with a flyout, a strikeout, and a foul out to Wielt at first. In the bottom half, Wrubluski put the Gorloks on top at 2-1 with a two-out solo homerun to deep center. Reid Hietpas and Ryan Hartz followed up with back-to-back singles and advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch. With runners in scoring position, Wielt ripped a two-run single to center that increased the lead to 4-1. 

 In the top of the fourth, Greifelt recorded his second consecutive shutout inning with two flyouts and a looking strikeout. In the bottom half, James Theodore led off with an infield single to third then Adam Moser followed up with a two-run moonshot over the left field wall for the 6-1 lead. The Gorloks continued the inning and loaded the bases with three consecutive singles by Wrubluski, Hietpas, and Hartz. With two outs and the bases loaded, Hutchings laced a two-run single to left that increased the lead to 8-1. 

In the top of the fifth, the Scots recorded a double and an infield bunt single that led to a sacrifice flyout to left that made the score 8-2.  

In the top of the sixth, Lyon added two singles then cut the lead to 8-5 with a three-run homerun. In the bottom half, Hartz recorded a two-out double to left and then scored on a single to center by Wielt that made the score 9-5. With two outs, Hutchings launched a two-run homerun over the left field wall that increased the lead to 11-5. 

In the top of the seventh, Greifelt sent down the Scots in order with two strikeouts and a groundout back to himself. In the bottom half, Theodore led off with a double to right center when Moser followed up with an RBI triple to center but got out at home hustling hard for the inside the park homer. With two outs, Wrubluski launched a solo homerun over the left field wall for the 13-5 lead.

In the eighth, Greifelt sent down the Scots in order with two looking strikeouts and a flyout. In the ninth, Webster called upon reliever Collin Johnson as he shut the door with a flyout, a groundout, and a strikeout. 

For the game, Greifelt pitched eight innings and recorded nine strikeouts. Wrubluski had a two-homer game with two RBI's. Hutchings went 2-for-4 with a career-high four RBI's. Wielt went 3-for-5 with a career-high three RBI's while Moser went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI's. 

The Gorloks advance to the SLIAC Championship game on May 9th against Westminster College starting at 1:00PM in O'Fallon, Missouri.
