ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team played to its fourth 1-1 draw in its last five matches Wednesday afternoon, battling Simpson College to a stalemate at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park. With the draw, the Gorloks move to 0-1-4 on the season.
Webster opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Juan Ignacio Martins Ferreira found the back of the net at the 13:40 mark. Scott Price was credited with the assist as the Gorloks took a 1-0 advantage.
Simpson answered in the 35th minute in unusual fashion, as a Webster clearance inside the box struck Kaeler Beebe in the face and ricocheted into the net to even the match at 1-1.
Neither team could find the go-ahead goal in the second half. Webster recorded five shots after halftime, while Simpson registered four, but the score remained tied through the final whistle.
The Gorloks finished the match with an 11-7 advantage in shots, while Simpson held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Webster and Simpson each had three corner kicks.
Jakub Samelko played all 90 minutes in goal for Webster and recorded two saves.
Webster will return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, traveling to Carlinville, Ill., to face Blackburn College in its first SLIAC match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
