ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Webster University had a pair of defensive standouts recognized by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) this week, as Jakub Samelko was named Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Lexi Filkins earned Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Samelko played all 180 minutes across two matches in goal for the Gorloks, finishing the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and six saves. He recorded a shutout in Webster's win over Blackburn. The honor marks Samelko's second SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award this season.

Filkins turned in a strong week defensively for the Gorloks, averaging 7.2 digs per set across two matches. She recorded 29 digs in Webster's win over Blackburn, 18 digs in Webster's win over Eureka, and successfully handled all 35 of her serve-receive attempts on the week.

The honors are the latest weekly conference recognition for Webster student-athletes during the 2026 season.
