ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Webster University volleyball team picked up a convincing 3-0 victory over Principia College, sweeping the Panthers by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-7.
Webster set the tone early, jumping out to an 8-5 lead in the opening set before pulling away. Emma Price helped spark the offense with a service ace and a kill, while Catherine Rennier added a pair of service aces as the Gorloks built a 17-8 advantage. Webster closed the opening set on a 5-0 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Eva Tarlos, to take the first set 25-11.
The Gorloks carried that momentum into the second set, racing out to a 7-1 lead behind a strong serving run from Leah McGrath, who recorded four consecutive service aces. Mea Bystrom added a pair of kills during Webster's strong start, while Catherine Rennier later added two more service aces as the Gorloks continued to control the set.
Webster continued to spread the offense around in the second set, with Bystrom, Carley Hersberger and Lauren Brown all contributing kills as the Gorloks extended their lead. Webster closed out the set with a 25-12 victory, taking a 2-0 lead into the third.
The Gorloks saved their most dominant performance for the third set. Addison Urbanski helped Webster take control early, recording two kills and two service aces during an 8-3 run. Hersberger also added multiple kills as Webster continued to build its advantage.
Julia Stroup then took over at the service line late in the set, recording back-to-back aces as Webster extended its lead to 21-7. Catherine Rennier added two kills during the run before Reagan Howe finished the match with the final kill, completing the 25-7 third-set victory.
With the sweep, Webster improved to 2-0 on the season after holding the Panthers to just seven points in the final set.
