KISSIMMEE, FL - Less than 24 hours after recording three hits over two games, the Webster offense resurfaced at the 2009 Rebel Games. Webster scored 15 runs in sweeping Sunday's action with a 7-3 win over Lake Forest and a 8-0 win over Mt. St. Joseph.
Junior
Gina Trapani (1-1) rendered the Lions offense toothless as she recorded nine strikeouts in her complete game performance. She allowed just three hits and MSJ only had three runners reach second base - two were with two outs.
After scoring individual runs in the second, third and fifth innings, Webster exploded for four runs in the sixth. Two of the runs scored on freshman
Lindsay McDonald's first career triple.
Junior
Megan Sperry was in the middle of WU's first two runs of the game. After opening the second inning with a single, she eventually scored on an RBI single from sophomore
Erynn Coit. After senior
Dana Vahey singled to open the third inning, and followed by stealing second and third, Sperry brought her home with a two-out single.
A five-run fourth inning aided the Gorloks' comeback victory over Lake Forest in Sunday's opener. After falling behind 3-1 after three, Webster used a little wildness and some timely hits to spark the five-run rally.
After Vahey reached on an error to open the inning, three consecutive walked brought the Gorloks to within one at 3-2. A two-run single from junior
Samantha Dittman gave Webster its first lead of the season, then McDonald capped the scoring with a two-out, two-run single.
Sperry (1-0) earned the victory with a complete game. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts.
Senior
Kelsey Washam went 2-for-2 with her first long ball of the season, while four players - Sperry, Dittman, Coit and McDonald - all had one hit. Vahey finished with two stolen bases.
Webster (2-2) will take on Geneva and Marietta Monday in its third day of the 2009 Rebel Games.
