Down to their final out, Webster embarked on a rally against Div. II University of Missouri-St. Louis that came up 90 feet short as WU dropped a non-conference game to the Tritons, 7-6. Webster pounded out 16 hits as eight of the nine starters recorded hits.
Back-to-back singles by senior
Alex Raetzloff and junior
Dakota Huey injected some confidence into the Gorloks potent offense. Sophomore
Craig Schaefer, senior
Andrew Fuiten and freshman
Joe Biagini all recorded RBI singles as Webster continued to circle the bases. Senior
Kyle Starnes kept the rally afloat with a RBI single that moved pinch runner
Chris Bielanski to third. However, a ground out brought the comeback to a disappointing end.
The comeback was necessary after UMSL scored seven runs over the first three innings, including a four-run second that chased starter
Mike Gebhardt from the game.
Webster's bullpen continued their brilliance holding the Tritons to just one unearned run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. Junior
John DuHadway went three no-hit innings with five strikeouts. The five strikeouts represent half of the batters he faced.
Gebhardt (0-2) surrendered six runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Huey and Biagini each were 3-for-5 on the day with Biagini recording two RBI and Huey scoring an run. Raetzloff, Schaefer, Starnes and junior
Zach Little all tallied two hits for the Gorloks.
Webster (11-10 overall, 8-0 SLIAC), which had its five-game winning streak snapped, will step back into conference action Saturday when they travel to Fontbonne. The game will kick off a three-game series with the Griffins that will culminate with a doubleheader Sunday. Junior
Peter Quintus is scheduled to start the opener.
