GREENVILLE, IL - Webster did its part in setting up the anticipated match-up with Maryville. Needing two victories to stay one game behind the Saints for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), the Gorloks swept Greenville, 7-1 and 8-1, Wednesday. The second game of the twinbill was called with one out in the sixth inning due to a lighting malfunction.
The two teams - Webster and Maryville - will meet 2 p.m. Friday in Town and Country for potentially the right to be the top seed in the upcoming 2009 SLIAC Tournament.
Greenville scored the first the first run in both games, but the Webster bats turned up the pressure and was able to bury the Panthers under a mountain of 24 hits and 15 runs. 
The top five hitters in the Webster lineup did the vast majority of the damage with all five RBI and 11 of the team's 13 hits. Seven of Webster's nine starters, led by 
Mandy Van Velkinburgh's three hits, recorded a hit in the opener. 
Megan Sperry, 
Cassie Mosier, 
Kelsey Washam and 
Dana Vahey all had two hits in the victory.
Webster took the lead with two runs in the second inning, then added three in fourth inning and two more in the fifth.
After surrendering an unearned run in the first inning, Sperry kept the Panthers off the board. She only allowed two runners to reach second base, and than came in the fifth inning when Greenville had bases loaded with one out. Sperry earned the complete game win, allowing four hits with five strikeouts.
The Gorloks took advantage of five Greenville errors to put eight runs on the board despite only recording two RBI with Mosier and Vahey driving in a run each. Webster did the most of its scoring damage in the third and fifth innings as the Gorloks pushed three runs across the plate in each stanza.
Gina Trapani earned the complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
