The Webster University men's baseball team dropped an extra-inning decision to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY), 4-3, in Davenport, FL, on March 8. The Gorloks had a strong start from
Will Savage (SR, Benet Academy, IL), but lost to the #10th nationally ranked team in the NCAA III,
Savage scattered six hits and one walk in seven innings of work, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. The two teams went to extra-innings tied 3-3, but RPI pushed across the game winner in the 11th. Offensively for Webster, junior
Craig Schaefer (Carterville HS, IL) was one for four, with two runs scored.
On March 7, Webster defeated Mt. St. Mary's College (NY), 7-4, The Gorlok offense had several standouts, led by
Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL), who went two for five with an RBI and run scored. Schaefer went three for five and
Nathan Shelton (JR, Northwest HS, STL) went one for four with two runs scored.
Starting pitcher
John DuHadway (SR, Christian Brothers HS, STL) spread out nine hits and one walk in six and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs, to pick up the win.
The Gorloks continue their spring trip in Florida, facing Wittenberg University (OH) on March 9 and Mt. Union College (OH) on March 11.
