Big Save, Big Inning Lead to Softball Sweep

Win Streak At Seven

The Webster University women's softball team, after a nine-day layoff, didn't forget how to win as it swept a double-header from Spalding University (KY), 7-6 and 10-0, on April 30 at Blackburn Park.  The wins extended the team's winning streak to seven games as it holds on to the lead in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Megan Sperry (SR, Clarkston HS, MI) won her ninth game of the season as Webster took the opener, 7-6.  Sperry ran out of gas in the seventh inning, as the Golden Eagles rallied and had the tying run on first.  Meghan Lokey (SO, Hazelwood West HS, STL) came in and struck out the only batter she faced to pick up the Gorloks first save of the year.  Sperry improved to 9-2 on the season with the win.

Sam Dittmann (SR, St. Pius X HS, STL) had another big day at the plate, going two for two, with two runs scored, a double, her third home run of the season, and five RBIs.  In her last six games, Dittmann has gone 7-19 with two doubles, three HRs, and 14 RBIs.  She leads the team in HRs, is tied for the team lead with 29 RBIs, and has raised her batting average to a career high .330.

Lokey started game two, and pitched a complete game, six-inning shutout.  She allowed two hits and one walk, striking out six as she ran her record to 4-3 and lowered her ERA to 3.50.  Webster turned six hits, a walk, and a key error into eight unearned runs in the sixth-inning.   Jessica Arcangel (FR, St. Lucy's Priory HS, CA) had the big hit, a three-run homer, her second of the season.  Arcangel was three for five on the day and raised her team-leading average to .432 and RBI total to 29.

Webster is 12-2 in the SLIAC and 19-11 overall.  The Gorloks host Greenville College for a double-header on May 1 at Blackburn Park, with the first place seed in the SLIAC on the line.  These are the final scheduled regular season games for Webster.
