Victor Valdez, who led a 35-run attack in a double-header vs. Washington University, and Kyler Scott , who finished second in Webster's Gorlok Spring Invitational, were named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for March 29-April 4.
Valdez, a senior from Wheaton, IL, (Benet Academy), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week. Valdez, an outfielder, had a .625 batting average in five games played last week. He went 10-for-18 with two doubles, four home runs, 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He was two for four with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run in the Gorloks 11-5 win at Fontbonne University.
Valdez' best outing of the week was a five for five performance, with six RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, and two home runs as Webster defeated Washington University 18-2. He added two hits, five RBIs, three runs, and a home run in a 17-1 win as Webster swept Washington U. Webster posted a 5-0 record last week to extend its win streak to nine games. The Gorloks have also scored 10 or more runs in six of their last seven wins.
Scott, a freshman from Culver, IN, (Culver Military Academy), has been named the SLIAC Golfer of the Week. Scott tied for second place in a field of 63 golfers at the Gorlok Spring Invitational to start the week. He shot rounds of 75-73 to finish with an eight-over par 148. Scott followed up that effort by tying for 33rd place out of 124 players at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational. Scott rebounded with a second round 76, after shooting a first-round 83, to finish 15-over par at 159.
