The Webster University softball team ended its spring break trip on a low note, dropping games to Catholic University of America (D.C.), 4-3, and Baldwin-Wallace College (OH), 9-0, on March 9. The Gorloks wind up with a 4-4 record in the Rebel Games, that were held in Kissimmee, FL.
Webster jumped to a 3-0 vs. Catholic, on singles by Strowman and Krekorian, and a double by Schaffer. But the lead was short-lived as Catholic scored three in the fourth to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Against Baldwin-Wallace, a five-run sixth inning blew open the game for the Yellow Jackets.
The Gorloks faced a tough pair of opponents on the final day of their trip. Catholic University was 26-15 in 2010 and is one of the favorites in the Landmark Conference for 2011. Baldwin-Wallace has jumped out of the gate 8-0 in 2011, and has been beating all opponents convincingly. Webster started the trip 4-1, before dropping its final three games.
Webster is 7-5 overall on the season. The Gorloks have their home opener on March 12, facing DePauw University in a double-header at Blackburn Park. The team will participate in the Marriot West Tournament on March 20, to be held in Clayton.
