Baseball Drops Pair to Open 2012

Box Score 1 The Webster University baseball team dropped its 2012 season opener, 4-3, to Hendrix College in 10 innings, and lost the nightcap, 9-5, after opening up a 5-0 lead.  The games took place on February 25 in Conway, AR.

Webster built the five-run lead in game two with two runs in the first and three in the fourth, but things went downhill from there.  Down 5-1 in the sixth, Hendrix rallied for eight runs, culminating in a two-run inside the park homer.  The Warrior batter circled the bases on a base hit into left-field that rolled to the wall as Gorlok outfielder Mike Rainbolt (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) went down with an injury.

Rainbolt was 2-2, tripling in two runs, before injuring his shoulder diving for the ball.  Alex Kazmierski (JR, Triton CC, IL) was 2-2 with a double and run scored, and Cody Stevensor (JR, Centralia HS, IL) was 2-4 with a run scored and his first steal of the season.  Jack Bensinger (FR, Long Island University) took the loss in relief.

David Mueller (SR, Westminster Christian Academy) started game one and pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, striking out five.  Isacc Behme (FR, Harrisburg HS, IL) was pinned with the loss,allowi ng the game winner in the bottom of the 10th.

Newcomer Taylor Stroulp (SO, Southwestern Illinois CC) was 1-2, with three walks, two stolen bases, and a run scored.  Stevenson was 1-4 with two more stolen bases.  Stevenson led the NCAA III in total stolen bases in 2011 with 47 swipes.

The Gorloks are right back in action at Hendrix on February 26 at 12:00 p.m.  Webster is 0-2 on the season.
