Gorloks Put PSI on RPI for 10-6 Win

After getting shutout the previous afternoon, the Webster University baseball team came out swinging in a 10-6 win over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY), on March 12, in Leesurg, FL.  Jack Bensinger (FR, Campbell Hall HS, CA) took the mound for the Gorloks and went eight innings for the win.  Dustin List (Illini Central HS, IL) went three for four, including a two-run blast in the second inning for his first home run of the season.

RPI knicked Bensinger for a run in the first to take the lead, but the Gorloks scored two in the second, one run in the third, and four more runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.   With a 10-3 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, RPI created a little excitement by scoring three unearned run to close to 10-6, before Steve Dooley (JR, Florissant Valley CC) put out the fire, recording the final out for the win.

Bensinger allowed three runs, just two earned, in his eight innings of work, on eight hits and two walks, while striking out seven.  Bensinger evened his season record at 1-1.  List wound up with four RBIs on the day, scored three runs, and added a stolen base.  Shortstop Mitchell Bonds (JR, Kankakee CC, IL) was one for two, with four runs scored, as he reached base three time via hit by pitch.  Webster was on the receiving end of six hit batsmen for the contest as the RPI pitchers took turns plunking batters.

Webster is 6-4 on the season and have a day off before facing Transylvania University (KY) on March 14 and St. Norbert College (WI) on March 15, both in Winter Haven.
