Box Score Webster University's volleyball squad arrived in Texas after a 15-hour bus ride, but got a rude welcome on the first day of the Trinity University (Texas) Fall Classic. The Gorloks dropped a pair of matches, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19) to Southwestern (Texas) and 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) to Springfield College (Mass.).

Junior Alexa Joseph (Austin, TX / Anderson), returning to her home state, led the Gorloks in kills in both matches with 10 against Southwestern and six against Springfield.

Junior Allie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) paced Webster in assists with 15 in the opener and 12 in the second match.

Freshman Katie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) was tops on the team in digs in both matches, with 19 and 20, respectively. The latter was her fourth match this season with 20 or more digs, including her school record 50 against Augustana Oct. 11. By comparison, Webster's dig leader last season compiled 20 or more digs in two matches. O'Toole has nine consecutive matches with 10 or more digs.

With 14 digs versus Southwestern, Jordan Vehlewald (Wildwood, MO / Lafayette) extended her streak to six consecutive matches with 10+ digs before it ended with four digs in the following match.

Sam Kersting (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) recorded four total blocks in each match, the former ending a streak of eight consecutive matches with five or more blocks.

Springfield is listed among those receiving votes for the NCAA Division III national top-25 poll conducted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Webster, now 19-6 overall, continues in the Classic with a pair of matches Saturday (Oct. 19), one against the host school, ranked No. 21 in the nation, and another against Redlands (Calif.).
