The Webster University women's softball team won a pair of games at MacMurray College (IL), 10-0 and 10-1, on April 21. The Gorlok offense, after scoring only six runs in its last four games, came to life with 20 runs in 10 innings as both games were called after five innings of play. Webster is now 7-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Webster won the first game, 10-0, behind Trisha Thompson (SR, Xavier Prep HS, AZ) who threw her seventh shutout of the season, tying her for fourth on Webster's single season all-time list for shutouts with Crystal Wilson (2002). Thompson is now tied for first on Webster's all-time career shutout list at 15 with Wilson (2001-02) as well. Thompson allowed only one hit and did not allow a walk for her fifth consecutive start, struck out six, and improved to 8-7 on the season.
Molly Muntz (JR, Streator HS, IL) led the Gorlok attack, going two for five, with her first home run of the season, and five RBIs. Rachel Franck (FR, McCluer North HS, MO) was three for four with two RBIs and Aly Watson (SR, Ft. Zumwalt South HS, MO) and Kelley Bridgmon (JR, Seckman HS, MO) were both three for three with an RBI.
In game two, Samantha Powers (JR, John F. Kennedy HS, MO) won her fourth game of the season. Powers went all five innings, giving up one run on four hits, and struck out four. Powers is 4-3 on the year.
Taylor Gibbs (SO, Alton HS, IL) had the big stick in the contest, going three for four, and hitting her team leading sixth and seventh home runs of the year. Gibbs drove in five runs in the game. Muntz had three more hits, going three for four with two RBIs and Watson was two for three with an RBI.
Muntz wound up five for nine with seven RBIs on the afternoon, while Watson finished up five for six with two RBIs.
The games at MacMurray started a 10-game road stretch for Webster to end the regular season. The Gorloks are back in action with a doubleheader at Westminster College on April 25.
