Box Score 2 The Webster University softball team split a doubleheader at MacMurray College, winning 9-3 in the opener and dropping the nightcap, 6-5. The Gorloks wind up 9-9 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gorlok pitchers had complete games in both contests with mixed results.
In game one, Samantha Powers (SR, Manchester, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) evened her season record at 7-7 with a complete game victory. She allowed seven hits, two walks, and two earned runs in seven innings, while striking out three. It was her fifth complete game of the season. Powers is eighth in the SLIAC with her seven wins.
Taylor Gibbs (JR, Alton, IL/Alton HS) was the hitting star, going 2-4, with her seventh home run of the year, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Gibbs leads the team in home runs and RBIs (31) and is fourth in the SLIAC in home runs (7). Alyssa Sapp (SO, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) was 2-2, with two walks, an RBI and run scored. In her nine games with the team, Sapp is batting.632 with a .667 on-base percentagae, going 12-19, with six runs scored and three stolen bases.
Kallie Federhofer (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) was 2-4, with a double, RBI, and run scored. Powers, Kelley Bridgmon (SR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS), and freshman Kristin McIntyre (Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) all had two hits as well for the game.
In game two the Gorloks had nine hits and five runs, but left 10 runners on base as they fell, 6-5. Alexis Spriggs (FR, Scott City, MO/Scott City HS) got the start and went all seven innings, allowing seven hits, four walks, and six runs. Spriggs, 2-4 on the season, struck out three in the loss.
Rachel Franck (SO, McCluer North HS) was 3-4, with three runs scored. Franck leads the team with a .445 batting average and is seventh in the SLIAC in BA. Sapp was 2-4, with a run scored and also reached on an error. Erin McGinnis (SO, Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) was 1-4, with two RBIs.
The Gorloks are 13-17 for the season. Webser closes out the season with a doubleheader in Terre Haute, IN, on April 24, vs. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Fighting Engineers, a member of the Heartland College Athletic Conference, are 15-13 for the year.
