Men's Soccer Wins With 00:11 Left in 2nd OT

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team snatched a victory in the nick of time as a goal with 11 seconds remaining in the second overtime gave them a 3-2 win at Fontbonne University, on October 7 in Clayton, MO.  Freshman Corey Redington scored the game winner off a pass from fellow freshman Zach Gyuricza.

Redington (Dardenne Prairie, MO/Ft. Zumwalt West HS) guided in a cross from Gyuricza (Chicago, IL/St. Viator HS) at 109:49 for his third goal of the season as the Gorlok faithful at Centene Stadium erupted.

The Gorloks had thought they had the game won with seconds remaining in the first overtime.  With a scrum in front of the Fontbonne goal, Webster scored what appeared to be the game winner, but it was called back on an offsides, despite vehement protesting by Gorlok head coach Mike Siener.

Gyuricza had scored his fourth goal of the season at the 71:00 mark in the second to give Webster a comfortable, 2-0 lead.  But Fontbonne would answer with two goals in 10 minutes to tie the game up at 2-2.

Nermin Hajrizi (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS) scored just 1:42 into the contest to give Webster a 1-0 lead.  Despite a flurry of Gorlok shots on goal late in the period, the scored remained 1-0 at the half.

The Webster offense came alive with 21 shots, 12 on goal, in the contest.  Freshman Alex Bergmann (Wentzville, MO/St. Dominic HS) had shutout the Griffins, facing 12 shots and making four saves, until allowing the two late goals.  Bergmann picked up the win, his second straight in goal, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Webster is now 2-0-1 in the SLIAC and 3-7-2 overall.  Fontbonne falls to 1-2 in the SLIAC and 3-8 overall.

The Gorloks travel to Carlinville, IL, on October 10 to face Blackburn College, the return home on October 13 to face SLIAC leader Westminster College at the Soccer Park.
