Greenville Tops Women's Basketball In SLIAC Opener

Opening play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University women's basketball team lost at Greenville College (IL), 61-48, on December 2.  The Gorloks fell behind by 13 at the half and couldn't recover from the deficit as they started the 2015-16 SLIAC schedule 0-1.

Webster, coming off big road win at Augustana College, shot 19% in the first half (7-36) and 25% (16-64) for the game as its offense was unable to get untracked.  The Gorloks only committed eight turnovers in the contest while forcing 24 Panther miscues.  But Webster got beat soundly on the boards, with Greenville holding a 46-28 edge for the game.

Alyssa Sapp (SR, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) came off the bench to lead Webster with nine points.  Taylor Lucas (SO, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) had eight points and tied Chelsea Holman (JR, Dechard, TN/Franklin County HS) with five rebounds for the team lead.

Greenville improved to 4-1 on the season and are 1-0 in the SLIAC.  Webster falls to 2-2 overall on the young season.

The Gorloks will travel to Elsah, IL, on December 5 to take on Principia College.  Webster will then continue their battle of Big Bend at Washington University, on December 9.
