The Webster University women's basketball team lost to Loras College (IA), 62-48, at Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on December 20. The Gorloks ended their Florida trip with a pair of losses at the Cruzin' Classic, sponsored by Trip Sports.
The Duhawks took a 38-17 lead at the half and the Gorloks were down by 26 after three periods. Webster came to life in the fourth, outscoring Loras 23-11, but it was too little too late.
Loras had the hot shooting hand on the afternoon, hitting 52% of its shots in the first half and finishing the game at 48%. Webster shot 29% for the game, and was especially cold from the three-point line, going 4-20 (20%).
The Gorloks were overpowered on the boards with the Duhawks having a 45-28 edge. The game was a sloppy one, with both teams combining for 50 turnovers.
Kelsey Miller (SO, Elizabeth, IN/South Central HS) and Paige Buechele (JR, Lebanon, IL/Lebanon HS) each hit double figures in points for Webster, with 13 and 10 repectively. Miller also had a game-high six steals for the game.
Loras, located in Dubuque, IA, and a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is 5-4 on the year.
Webster is now 3-5 on the season and will be home for its final game of 2015 on December 30 vs. Rust College (MS) at Grant Gym. The Gorloks resume play in the SLIAC on January 2 as they travel to Carlinville, IL, to take on Blackburn College.
