Goal at 0:00 in 2nd OT Sinks Gorloks

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team fell behind early, recovered to tie, and then lost a heartbreaker as Lake Forest College scored at 0:00 of the second overtime to defeat the Gorloks, 3-2.  Webster lost its home opener, on September 11, at the newly christened World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

Lake Forest was awarded a penalty kick on a called handball off a free kick.   The Foresters were given a free kick just outside the Webster box with the clock running out in the second OT.  Lake Forest got off a shot that was deflected out of bounds as the clock ran out, but to the surprise of the Gorloks, the referee signaled for a PK for the Foresters.

Lake Forest buried the kick for the win, tarnishing a hard-fought Webster comeback, after the Gorloks had tied the game after falling behind 2-0 in the opening moments of the contest.

Webster freshman Zach Gyuricza (FR, Chicago, IL/St. Viator HS) scored off a rebound of a shot by Brendan Shields (JR, St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt East HS) to cut the Foresters lead to 2-1.  Shields took a shot just outside the box that the Forester goalie deflected to Gyuricza, who sent it home for his first collegiate goal.

Gyuricza scored his second goal for the Gorloks at the 63:20 mark of the second half.  Joey Florian (JR, Ballwin, MO/John F. Kennedy HS) hit a corner kick for Webster that deflected to Gyuricza, and he buried it to tie the game at 2-2.

A Lake Forest loft, from the right corner of the penalty box, just over the outstretched arms of goalie Alex Bergmann (FR, Wentzville, MO/St. Dominic HS), gave them a 1-0 lead just thirty seconds into the game.  The Foresters took a 2-0 lead six minutes later, scoring on a loose ball at the goal line off a corner kick.

Zach Horn (JR, Godfrey, IL/Alton Marquette HS) took over in the nets for Webster in the second half and shut out Lake Forest for the next 65 minutes…till the penalty kick to end the game.  Freshman Alex Bergmann (Wentzville, MO/St. Dominic's HS) started the game in goal for the Gorloks, giving up the two early goals before shutting the Foresters down for the remainder of the half.

The Gorloks and Foresters each had 17 shots in the game, with Webster outshooting Lake Forest 11-3 in the second half.  Webster held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Forty-six fouls were called in the game, with Lake Forest receiving 24 to Webster's 22, and seven yellow cards were handed out, with each team getting a red card as well.

Webster is 0-4 on the season and will host the University of the Ozarks on September 12 at the Soccer Park.  Lake Forest, a member of the Midwest Conference, improved to 3-0.
