Men's Basketball Falls to Westminster, 67-61

The Webster University men's basketball team suffered another home defeat in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, losing to Westminster College, 67-61 on January 13.  With the loss, the Gorloks fall to 4-3 in the SLIAC.

A pair of trays gave Westminster a 20-14 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.  C.J. Moore (JR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) was fouled on a coast to coast lay up at 5:20, and with his free throw gave Webster a 26-25 lead.  A late pair of lay ups would give the Blue Jays a 33-29 halftime lead, though.

Westminster opened up an 11-point lead with eight minutes remaining in the game.  Adam Etter (JR, Albers, IL/Mater Dei HS) hit a pair of threes to help keep Webster hanging around but the Blue Jays always had an answer for a Gorlok score.

Webster climbed within five at 2:40 after a Hunter Ward (JR, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS) three-pointer and a Moore lay up.  Ward was fouled and hit a free-throw at 1:26 but once again Westminster answered with a lay up to give the Blue Jays a 64-58 lead with :56 on the clock.

Ward had a game-high 11 points, eight rebounds, and tied with five assists for Webster.  Taylor Walton (SR, Okawville, IL/Okawville HS) had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Moore had 10 points and five assists.  Freshman Evan Milligan (lEvansville, IN/Evansville Central HS) had seven points, five rebounds, and three blocks coming off the bench.

Webster is 7-7 overall on the season.  Westminster is 5-2 in the SLIAC and 5-8 overall with the win.

The Gorloks now travel to Louisville, KY, after playing four straight at home, to take on Spalding University on January 16.  Webster then heads to Mt. Pleasant, IA, on January 20 to face Iowa Wesleyan University.
