Golden Eagles Grind Down Gorloks, 76-67

The Webster University men's basketball team lost at Spalding University, 76-67, on January 16 in Louisville, KY.  The loss was the Gorloks third in their last four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games and dropped them to 4-4 in the league.

Spalding was up, 21-17, in the first half but went on a 11-0 run to pull comfortably in front at 32-17.  The teams entered the locker room at the half with Spalding leading, 36-21.

The Golden Eagles opened up a 23-point lead, 59-36, midway through the second half before the Gorloks made a run.  Webster cut the deficit to 65-54 with five minutes left in the game but a Spalding basket and free throw extended their margin back to 14.  Spalding would maintain its lead the rest of the way for the win.

Webster forced 21 turnovers and came up with 16 steals in the game but Spalding had the hot hand from the field, shooting 46.4% to the Gorloks' 39.3%.  The Golden Eagles canned 12 three-pointers to the Gorloks' two in the contest, and also won the battle for the boards, 39-32.

Hunter Ward (JR, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS) had a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds for Webster.  C.J. Moore (JR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had 12 points and a team-high four steals in the contest.

Webster is now  7-8 overall on the season.  Spalding leaps over Webster in the SLIAC at 5-3 and is also 7-8 on the season.

Webster heads to Mt. Pleasant, IA, on January 20 to face Iowa Wesleyan University.  The Gorloks are back home on January 23 to host Greenville College (IL).
