Iowa Wesleyan Handles Webster, 83-76

Facing the first place team in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University men's basketball team fell to Iowa Wesleyan University, 83-76, on January 20 in Mt. Pleasant, IA.   Webster held an eight-point halftime lead, but Wesleyan had the hot hand in the second half, shotting 55.9% from the field, including 56.3% (9-16) from the three-point line to overpower the Gorloks.

The Gorloks shot a solid 47% (16-34) from the field in taking a 38-30 halftime advantage.  In addition, Webster had a 20-13 edge on the boards.  Iowa Wesleyan would pull ahead of Webster at the 16:35 mark in the second half, 42-41, with the Gorloks regaining the lead at 47-45 with 14:59 remaining.

The Tigers had the hot hand though, and would go on a 11-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 56-47 lead.  Webster would get within two, but Wesleyan delivered the knockout blow with a 19-0 run, giving the Tigers a 75-56 lead with 4:34 left in the game.

Tevin Evans (SR, St. Louis, MO/Chaminade HS) came off the bench to score a career high 21 points, going 4-4 from the three-point line, and 7-10 overall.  Evans grabbed five rebounds as well.  Hunter Ward (JR, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS) had 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Freshman Evan Milligan (Evansville, IN/Evansville Central HS) also sparked the Gorloks coming off the bench, scoring a season-high 17 points and hauling in seven rebounds.  Milligan was 7-10 from the field in the game.  Xavier Dortch (JR, Stockton, AL/Faulkner State CC) joined in the bench scoring, adding 12 points.  The Webster bench had 54 of the team's 76 points for the night.

For Webster, it was its third straight loss and fourth in its last five games.  The Gorloks are 4-5 in the SLIAC and 7-9 overall.  Iowa Wesleyan is 7-2 in the SLIAC and 11-5 overall.

The Gorloks return home on January 23 to face Greenville College.  Webster will host Principia College on January 26 at Grant.
