Men's Basketball Runs by MacMurray, 96-66

The Webster University men's basketball team shook off a tough loss at home, following up with a convincing 96-66 win over MacMurray College, on January 9 at Grant Gymnasium.  The Gorloks took firm control of the game early and never let up in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match up.

Webster took a 15-10 lead early in the game and was up, 28-16, at 7:30 in the first half.  But the Highlanders went on a 9-0 run, as the Gorloks had trouble with the MacMurray full-court pressure, and closed the gap to 28-25.  Webster settled down and after a three-pointer, followed by a layup, from Xavier Dortch (JR, Stockton, AL/Faulkner State CC), the Gorloks were up 39-28 at the half.

The Gorloks piled it on in the second half.  Webster opened up a 48-30 lead, then extended it to 29, at 64-35, with 11:40 remaining.  The romp allowed head coach Chris Bunch to utilize his bench, getting all 14 available players into the contest with all 14 getting into the scoring column.

Tevin Evans (SR, St. Louis, MO/Chaminade HS) and C.J. Moore (JR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) each had 14 ponts, and Dortch had 13 for the Gorloks.  Hunter Ward (JR, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS) had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Adam Etter (JR, Albers, IL/Mater Dei HS) also hit double figures for Webster with 10 points and had a team-high six assists.

Webster shot 55% (38-69) in the game and was 14-17 from the free throw line.  The Gorloks forced 18 turnovers and came up with 13 steals in the contest.

Webster is 4-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and 7-6 overall with the victory.  The Gorloks finish a four-game homestand when they host Westminster College on January 13 at Grant.  Webster hits the road on January 19, travelling to Louisville, KY, to face Spalding University.
