The Webster University men's basketball team lost to host Illinois Wesleyan University, 82-69, at the Illinois Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament, on November 18 in Bloomington, IL. The Gorloks fought back from deficits in both the first and second halves, but a run by the Titans midway through the second half sunk Webster.
The Gorloks fell behind, 9-17, in the first four minutes of the contest. Webster cut the deficit to 17-21 at 9:00 and were still down by four, 23-27, at the 5:40 mark. The Titans went on a 7-0 run to open up a 34-23 lead with 1:14 left in the half. A dunk by Evan Milligan (SO, Evansville, IN/Evansville Central) at 0:55 and a layup by Milligan at 0:14, sandwiched around a C J Moore (SR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian) free throw, pulled Webster to 28-37 heading into the locker room.
Milligan would lead Webster with eight points in the half. Rabassa Turner (SR, Memphis, TN/St. Benedict at Auburndale) had seven points, with Hunter Ward (SR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) adding six.
A 7-0 run by Webster in the first two minutes of the second half, prompted a Titan timeout with the Gorloks down by just two, 35-37. A pair of free throws by Jahmad Wilburn (SO, Deerfield Beach, FL/Deerfield Beach) at 12:37 nudged the Gorloks within one, at 46-47. With Webster still down, 52-54, at the 9:58 mark, Wesleyan went on a 12-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to put the Gorloks in a 52-66 hole with 6:28 remaining.
The Titans would extend their lead to 17 at one point as the Gorloks fell, 82-69. Ward had 10 second half points as he finished with a team-high 16 and a team-high five rebounds. Milligan finished with 15 points and Moore with 13.
Wesleyan beat Webster handily on the boards, 41-22. The Titans shot 51.7% from the field while the Gorloks shot a respectable 47.4% in the contest.
The Gorloks were coming off an exciting, yet heartbreaking, 60-59 loss to #20 ranked Washington University. Webster is now 0-2 on the young season. Webster will now play in the consolation final on November 19 vs. Aurora Univesity, who lost to Loras College (IA), 112-99, in a shootout.
