Webster Men Lose Consolation Final, 87-73, To Aurora

The Webster University men's basketball team lost in the Frontier Communications Tip-Off Tournament consolation final, 87-73, to Aurora University (IL) on November 19 in Bloomington, IL.  The Gorloks only trailed by two after the first half, but the Spartans made a run in the second, pulling ahead by 17 midway through the half as they went on to defeat Webster.

The difference in the game for the Gorloks in the contest was pretty much three-point shooting.  Webster outshot Aurora overall, 49%-45%, for the game, and outrebounded Aurora, 40-32, for the game.  But the Spartans nailed 16 of 32 three-pointers, compared to the Gorloks' 3-15 shooting from beyond the arc.  Webster also had an uncharacteristic 20 turnovers contribute to their downfall as well.

Webster was down 41-39 at the half.  Aurora built a 17-point lead by the 9:30 mark in the second and the closest the Gorloks would get was within nine points.

Evan Milligan (SO, Evansville, IN/Evansville Central) once again led Webster in scoring, this time with 19 points on 8-11 shooting.  Milligan also picked up the pace in rebounding, leading the Gorloks in that stat as well with 10, and added four blocks in the game.

Hunter Ward (SR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) had 11 points and seven rebounds, and C J Moore (SR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian) and Rabasa Turner (SR, Memphis, TN/St. Benedict at Auburndale) each hit double digits with 11 and 10, respectively.

The Gorloks are now 0-3 on the young season.  Webster returns home on November 21 for an exhibition bout vs. the University of Missouri-St. Louis, an NCAA II member.  The Gorloks then host the Cavallo Classic at Grant on November 25-26, taking on the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Rust College (MS).
