Men's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

Six Players Named ITA Scholar Athletes

The Webster University men's tennis team was recognized with an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award for 2015-16.  In addition, six team members were named 2016 ITA Scholar Athletes as well, the largest number of individual recipients for a single year in men's team history.

The men's tennis team had an impressive 3.49 team grade point average (GPA) for the 2015-16 year.  That GPA easily surpassed the Gorloks 3.17 in 2014-15, when they just missed out on the team award.  To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team Award, team rosters must maintain a 3.2 GPA for the academic year.

The Webster men's ITA Scholar Athletes earned the awards by maintaining GPAs, for the 2015-16 academic year, over the 3.5 minimum required for the honor.  In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must also be a varsity letter winner, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Those qualifying this year were:

Eric Bateman, JR, Maryland Heights, MO (Pattonville HS)
Carlos Gonzalez, SR, Madrid, Spain (Webster-Leiden)
Juan Granizo, SR, Quito, Ecuador (Colegio Alberto Einstein)
Matt Lang, SR, St. Louis, MO (Lindbergh HS)
Ian Powers, FR, Farmington, MO (Farmington HS)
Zach Selby, SR, Redding, CA (Enterprise HS)

This was Lang's second straight award and Granizo also received the award in 2013-14, not playing in 2014-15.  The Gorloks were one of just 85 NCAA III programs out of over 400 nationwide to earn the award.  Webster was one of two the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams to qualify for the award in 2016, with Principia College also being recognized.

Congratulations to the Webster men's tennis team!
