The Webster University women's soccer team started a weekend trip to Memphis, TN, with a 2-0 loss to Hendrix College (AR). The Warriors were a tough opener for the Gorloks, having won five of their first six games and now having shut out three straight opponents.
There wasn't much offensive action in the first half as Hendrix led in shots, 4-3, with neither team having to make any saves, and the teams entered the locker room with no score. The game remained scoreless until Hendrix scored a goal at the 55:28 mark in the second half. The Warriors added an insurance goal at 72:54 to make it 2-0.
In the second half, the Gorloks got off seven shots, with three on goal, but couldn't break through offensively. Hendrix' two goals came on its only two shots on goal in the game. Aly Miller (FR, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) got the start for Webster and had a scoreless first half. Abbey Mercer (FR, Granite City, IL/Granite City) took over the nets in the second half as Hendrix had eight shots and scored two goals, and she came up with three saves. She picks up her first collegiate decision as she falls to 0-1.
Webster is 1-4 on the year with the loss. Hendrix improves to 6-1 on the season.
The Gorloks conclude their Memphis trip with a game vs. Rhodes College on September 18. Webster is back home on September 21 as it hosts Illinois College at the Soccer Park.
