Women's Soccer Breaks Out in 4-0 Win Over Illinois College

The Webster University women's soccer team opened up an offensive barrage on Illinois College, as it beat the Lady Blues, 4-0, on September 21 at the Soccer Park.  The Gorloks had the dominant effort they were looking for, as three players scored their first goals of the season and two had their first collegiate goals in the game.

The Gorlok attack, which had been bogged down in its first six games, broke out in a big way against Illinois College with 40 shots.  The Gorloks had 15 shots, including 10 on goal, in the first 20 minutes of the contest alone.  Chelsea Noser (SO, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) put Webster up 1-0 on a goal at 7:00 in the first half.  Kayla Dye (JR, St. Louis, MO/Windsor), sent a pass to Noser on the right wing, with Noser poking a shot by the Lady Blues goalie for her second goal on the year.

Melissa Kasper (FR, Chicago, IL/Oswego) made it 2-0 with her first collegiate goal at 33:18.  Janel Bond (FR, Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) lofted a 20-yard pass into the box to Kasper, who banged it home.  Webster finished the half with a 23-1 advantage in shots, with 16 on goal.

Carolyn Ries (SO, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) scored her first goal of the season at 55:23 in the second half.  Ries took a cross from Dye in the goalie box, and fired it in for a 3-0 Webster lead.  Dye had two assists in the game.  Bond concluded the Webster scoring, getting her her first collegiate goal as well.  Bond took a pass from Kasper just outside the goalie box and slid it past the goalie for a 4-0 lead at 78:37.

Aly Miller (FR, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) picked up the shutout in goal for Webster, making two saves of the two shots she faced.  Miller is 2-1 on the season.

Webster dominated all aspects of the game.  The Gorloks wound up with a 40-2 edge in shots, with 25 on goal, in the contest.  Webster had five corners to none for Illinois College.  The Gorloks are 10-0 vs. the Lady Blues, dating back to their first meeting in 2000.

Webster is now 2-5 on the season.  Illinois College, which was 2-0 vs SLIAC opponents entering the game, with wins over Principia College and Fontbonne University, falls to 4-2.  The Gorloks open play in the SLIAC on September 24 at Greenville College.
