Gorloks Overpower Blue Jays, 4-1, Stay Undefeated In SLIAC

The Webster University women's soccer team, ranked sixth in the Central Region, held onto a first place tie in the SLIAC with a 4-1 win over Westminster College, on October 12 at the Soccer Park.  After taking a lead shortly before the half, the Gorloks used three goals in an 11-minute span in the second half to lock up the win.

Melissa Kasper (SO, Chicago, IL/Oswego) broke a scoreless tie at the 35:36 mark.  Brianna Pagan had the ball about 35 yards out on the left side and found Kasper streaking in near the right side of the Blue Jay penalty box.  Kasper dribbled in and beat the goalie for her fourth goal of the year.

Webster had a 6-3 edge in shots for the half, as there were no corner kicks and much of the play was between the penalty boxes.  Aly Miller (SO, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) manned the nets for the Gorloks.

The Blue Jays didn't take long to tie up the contest, scoring 15 seconds into the second half.  A Westminster defender hit a clearing boot into the Webster end after the kick-off.  It found a Blue Jay forward wide open for a breakaway goal to knot the game at 1-1.

It took 25 minutes, but then came the Webster barrage.  First, Lauren Nuelle (SR, St. Joseph's Academy) put Webster back on top at 70:43 off a pass from Olivia Osterhage (SO, St. Louis, MO/Eureka).

Ten minutes later, Kelsey Hausmann (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) gave Webster a 3-1 cushion on a goal assisted by Nicole Bascio (JR, St. Louis, MO/Timberland).  It was Hausmann's fifth goal of the year.  Nuelle finished the three-goal burst with her fourth of the year at 81:28, with Osterhage once again getting the assist.

Miller picked up her fifth win and is 5-0 on the year.  She gave up the lone goal and had one save.  Webster outshot Westminster, 22-6 for the game and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Webster is 4-0 in the SLIAC, tied with Spalding University for first.  Webster is 12-1 overall now and has a four-game win streak.  It's only loss came to #2 ranked Washington University.  Webster has never lost to the Blue Jays and has a 27-0-1 edge in the series between the two teams.

Webster will travel to Jacksonville, IL, on October 14 to play MacMurray College.
