The Webster University women's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 win on the road against Illinois College, on September 1, in Jacksonville, IL. The Gorloks took a 2-0 first half lead and cruised to the victory in a dominant effort.
The Gorloks took a quick lead as Sydney Tedesco (SR, Belleville, IL/Belleville East) scored 61 seconds into the contest. Her goal came off a corner kick by Olivia Osterhage (SO, St. Louis, MO/Eureka), who picked up the assist. Webster added a second goal 10 minutes later when Melissa Kasper (SO, Chicago, IL/Oswego) found the net off a pass from senior Brianna Pagan (St. Louis, MO/Washington) at the 11:19 mark.
Alisa Coralic (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) manned the nets in the first half, and Aly Miller (SO, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) took over in the second half as they shared the shutout.
The Gorloks outshot the Lady Blues, 20-2, in the first half and wound up with a 37-3 edge for the game.
Illinois College, a member of the Midwest Conference, finished 8-9-1 in 2016. Webster, 13-8 in 2016, won its fifth straight SLIAC regular season title last season and is looking to make it a full six-pack in 2017.
The Gorloks will have their home opener on September 2 vs. Benedictine University (IL) at the Soccer Park.
