The Webster University women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 2-1 win in 2OT at Elmhurst College (IL), on September 10. Joi Wilson headed in the game winner 3:29 into the second overtime off a cross from Brianna Pagan.
Despite being a player up, thanks to an Elmhurst red card with 13 minutes left in regulation, the Gorloks weren't able to take advantage in the first overtime period with both teams battling back and forth. Elmhurst came dangerously close to scoring on a corner kick that rattled around the Webster goal box before being cleared at the 98:20 mark in the first OT, though the Blue Jays still did not manage to get off any shots in OT.
But Webster came out in the second OT session much more determined and pressed the Elmhurst defense. Wilson, (FR, Tracy, CA/Tracy) had a couple close calls in the opening minutes of the second OT but when Pagan (SR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) made a cross she could reach, Wilson didn't miss, heading it just under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the half. Kelsey Hausmann (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) scored six minutes into the contest for the Gorloks. Hausmann took a pass from Sydney Tedesco (SR, Belleville, IL/Belleville East) just outside of the six yard box and lofted a shot over the Blue Jay goalie for the score.
Elmhurst tied it up at the 37:00 mark on a blast from just outside the box that eluded Webster keeper Alisa Coralic (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) who manned the nets in the first half. Ali Miller (SO, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) took over in goal for the second half and shut out the Blue Jays.
That's the way it stood at the end of regulation as the teams headed into overtime. Webster had nine shots in regulation, with four on goal. The Blue Jays had 15 shots with eight on goal. Coralic had three saves in the first half, and Miller staved off all four Elmhurst shots on goal in the second half. Miller held off the Blue Jays in both overtime sessions as well, going 61 plus total minutes of shutout play to get the win.
Elmhurst was called for a red card at the 77:00 minute mark after a flagrant foul, leading to the ejection that giving Webster a player advantage for the duration of the contest. Webster finished with 12 shots, with six on goal. The Gorloks also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Elmhurst is now 2-1 after entering the game with both of its wins against SLIAC schools. Webster is 4-0 for the first time since the 2013 season. The Gorloks head to Mount Vernon, IA, on September 15 to take on Cornell College.
