Women's Soccer Unbeaten Streak Snapped, Falls at Home Sunday to Coe College

FENTON, Mo. - One day after playing perhaps its most complete match of the season in its 4-0 home win over Cornell College, Webster University played very little energy as they saw their perfect season come to a halt following its 3-1 loss to Coe College at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

With the setback, Webster falls to 6-1-0 overall and snapped its regular season win streak at 15 matches, while Coe improved to 4-2-1 on the year.

In Sunday's match, Webster outshot the Kohawks, 18-11 and were also outshot in shots on goal, 8-6, but Coe was able to take advantage of its limited chances and scored three goals against WU's defense, which came into the match having allowed just four goals in its first six matches.

Coe got on the scoreboard first on Sunday as Sydney Schroder found the net on a shot from nine yards out on the left side to give the Kohawks a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. It marked just the second time this season that Webster had trailed in a match as they also trailed in its 2-1 win last Saturday at Benedictine (Ill.) University.

About nine minutes after Schroder's goal, the Gorloks tied the match as freshman forward Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) took a pass from junior forward Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) and scored off a rebound from three yards out. The goal was the first of Lande's collegiate career.

In the first half, Webster had 10 shots and four shots on goal, but Coe's goalkeeper Kacey Baker made three saves and allowed just that one goal by Lande.

The Kohawks would waste little time retaking the lead nearly three minutes into the second half as Ashlyn Moos scored an unassisted goal in the 47th minute to give Coe a 2-1 lead.

In the 60th minute, Gorloks junior midfielder Payton Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) had a shot blcoked  and in the 70th minute, Kasper had a scoring change, but her shot was saved by Baker in the net.

Back-to-back shots on goal in the 75th and 76th minutes by sophomore midfielder Cassidy Bishop (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) and junior midfielder Savannah Page (Sandy, Utah/Jordan) each had shots on goal saved by Baker to leave the score, 2-1 in Coe's favor.

Shalyn Kinney gave Coe a 3-1 lead in the 83rd minute as she took a pass from Brynne Sandfort and scored a goal from 10 yards out.

In the match's final five minutes, Webster had four shots, including a header shot by Lande that was high in the 87th minute and a shot by freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Theriot (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Liberty) in the 88th minute was saved by Baker.

Kasper, Lande and Page each had four of Webster's 18 shots in the loss. In addition to those three players, Williams and senior midfielder Carolyn Ries (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) each had two shots for the match.

Senior goalkeeper Alisa Coralic (6-1-0) suffered her first loss of the season in the net as she had three saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes. Entering the match, Coralic had allowed just four goals through WU's first six matches.

Moos had four of Coe's 11 shots, while Schroder and Morgan Petsche each had two shots in the win.

Baker (4-2-1) earned the win in goal for the Kohawks as she had seven saves and allowed just that first half goal to Lande and then helped WU without a goal over the final 59-plus minutes of the match.

Webster will look to rebound on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as they travel to Jacksonville, Ill., for a 5 p.m. non-conference match against Illinois College.
