FENTON, Mo. - Two of the top women's soccer programs in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battled each other for 110 minutes and two overtimes here Wednesday as Webster University and Westminster (Mo.) College played to a 0-0 draw in SLIAC action at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
The tie was just the third all-time tie for the Gorloks in SLIAC play in the program's 21-year history and first tie in league play since a 1-1 draw at home against Principia on Oct. 21, 2000. In addition, it was also the first time Webster didn't leave the field in SLIAC play with a win since suffering a 2-1 loss at Spalding on Oct. 21, 2015.
With the draw, Webster record is now 9-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league play, while Westminster is now 2-8-2 overall and 2-1-1 in SLIAC play.
Despite playing to a scoreless draw for the first time this season, Webster held the edge in both shots and shots on goal in Wednesday's match as the Gorloks took 25 shots and put 15 of those shots on goal, including holding a 6-1 edge in shots in both of the overtime periods.
In the first overtime period, the Gorloks appeared headed towards a win as senior forward
Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) had a breakaway chance and put a shot on goal in the 93rd minutes, but Westminster's Sarah Cradick stopped the ball from going in the net and then seven seconds later, Kasper had a rebound shot that Cradick dove on to prevent a goal to keep the match scoreless.

Ryleigh Grommet (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) put a shot on goal in the 93rd minute that was saved by Cradick and in the 98th minute, Westminster's Kate Ponder put a shot on goal that was saved by freshman goalkeeper

In double overtime, the Gorloks put took two shots as one of them by senior midfielder
Savannah Page (Sandy, Utah/Jordan) in the 105th minute was saved and a shot late in the 108th minute by sophomore midfielder
Julia Paradise (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) went wide left.
The Gorloks appeared headed toward a win in regulation as a cross in the box in the 83rd minute appeared headed towards the goal, when the Blue Jay defenders stopped the ball from going into the net to keep the game scoreless.
Kasper paced the Gorloks offense with eight shots and six shots on goal, while Grommett added five shots and two shots on goal and senior midfielder
Olivia Osterhage (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) had four shots and two shots on goal.
For the match, nine different Gorloks took at least one shot in the match.
Natalie Schulte and Madison Ekern each took two shots for the Blue Jays, who recorded just seven shots and four shots on goal.
Webster also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks and committed 15 fouls to five for the Blue Jays.
Banfield, who was named this week's SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, played all 110 minutes in goal and recorded four saves in recording her seventh shutout of the season.
Cradick finished the match with 15 saves in 110 minutes of action as her record is now 2-8-2 overall on the season.
Webster will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 as they welcome Big Bend Blvd. rival Fontbonne University for a 3:30 p.m. match at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The match will mark Senior Day for the Gorloks as they will honor their five senior players and senior manager in a prematch ceremony. This year's seniors are Kasper, Osterhage, Page, defender

Abbey Mercer (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and Janel Bond (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day), who was a player in both 2016 and 2017, before serving as the team's manager the past two seasons.
