JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Webster University's women's track and field team had another strong showing on the indoor track here Saturday as the Gorloks placed fifth out of 14 teams at the Jim Green Invitational held at King Fieldhouse on the Illinois College campus.
 
At Saturday's Jim Green Invitational, Webster scored a total of 64.5 points to place fifth at the meet that featured NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA schools. Much like the men's side, Missouri Baptist also took home first place on the women's side as they scored a total of 124 points. Illinois College, the meet's host team, was second with 89.5 points and Illinois-Springfield was third with 67 points. Two other teams from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competed on Saturday as Fontbonne was 10th with 24 points and Principia was 11th with 14 points.
 
The Gorloks, who sent 20 competitors to the meet, set new school records, took home first place in one event and placed in the Top 3 in six other events. Additionally, Webster scored points in nine total events. 
 
Webster lone event win came in the long jump as junior Daisha Reece (Norman, Okla./Rogers State) as she recorded a leap of 17-06.25 (5.34m), which was just a centimeter off the school record. Reece's jump was the second longest in school history. 
 
Sophomore Minnell Fundora (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) set another school record on Saturday as she finished second in the 1-mile run with a school record time of 5:22.84. Fundora, who set a new school mark in the 500-meter dash at last weekend's Principia Relays, bettered the old mark in the 1-mile of 5:24.15 set by Valerie Martin in 2014 at Anderson (Ind.). 
 
Junior Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) set two new school records on Saturday as she placed third in the 800-meter dash with a school record time of 2:24.13 and she also third in the pole vault with a school record vault of 9-00.25 (2.75m). In the 800-meter run, Sowers bettered her old school mark of 2:26.58 set at last year's Missouri Collegiate, while Sowers also broke her own vault record as she set the old record of 8-07.50 at last year's SLIAC Invitational. Sowers now holds four individual indoor track records. 
 
Webster put on a show in the 60-meter hurdles as three of the eight finalists were Gorloks. In the 60-meter hurdles final, sophomore Vanessa Jones (Orlando, Fla./Lake Minneola) was third with a time of 10.10, while sophomore Elena Hutson (Scottsboro, Ala./Scottsboro) was sixth with a time of 10.33 and sophomore Desiree Jones (Jackson, Miss./William B. Murrah) was eighth with a time of 10.99. In the prelims, Vanessa Jones ran a time of 9.95, while Hutson ran 10.94 and Desiree Jones ran an 11.03. 
 
The distance medley relay team of freshman Taylor Dunning (Chester, Ill./Chester), junior Emma Teson (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood), freshman Megan Bartz (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) and freshman Lindsay Poitras (Imperial, Mo./Fox) placed second with a time of 14:18.80. 
 
Other top performances were turned in by senior Colleen Coday (Harrisonville, Mo./Harrisonville), who placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-09 (1.45 meters), while junior Jakara Davidson-Brooks (Sanford, Fla./Seminole) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15-10.50 (4.84 meters).
 
In the throw events, junior Miranda Green (Joplin, Mo./McAuley Catholic) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 36-08.25 (11.18 meters) and senior Bailey Badger (Richland, Mo./Richland) was seventh in the weight throw (42-18.00). 
 
Webster will return to the indoor track next Saturday, Feb. 9 as they travel to Platteville, Wis., to compete at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational.
