BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Webster University junior
Abbie Stolzer (Sainte Genevieve, Mo./Sainte Genevieve) has been named this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Stolzer is the second consecutive Gorlok to earn Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors as junior
Daisha Reece (Norman, Okla./Rogers State) earned the recognition last week. In addition to Reece, sophomore
Minnell Fundora (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Stolzer earns this season's second Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor after setting a new personal best in the hammer throw by nearly eight meters at last Saturday's WashU Mini Meet. At the WashU Mini Meet, Stolzer threw the hammer 118-08 (36.16 meters) to place ninth in the event. She was the fourth SLIAC finisher in the event at the meet and her toss is ranked fifth in the league this season.
Meanwhile, the league named Spalding's Kelsey Phillips as this week's Track Athlete of the Week. Phillips earns this week's honor after placing second in the steeplechase at the Transylvania Invitational last weekend. In the event, she recorded a time of 12:17, which is first in the SLIAC and 21st nationally in Division III.
Stolzer and the rest of the Gorloks will return to action this coming weekend at two events as the teams distance runners will compete in the WashU Distance Carnival on Friday, March 29 and the remainder of the team will compete at the John Creer Invitational hosted by Lindenwood University on Saturday, March 30 in St. Charles, Mo.
