BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Webster University continued to rack up postseason honors in women's track and field on Tuesday as junior Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) was named the SLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year and becomes the second straight Gorlok to earn that award as Meghan Illig was honored last season.

Along with Sowers earned the Women's Track Athlete of the Year honor, Webster had a total of 14 student-athletes named to the All-SLIAC Team, which was awarded to the top three finishers in each event at this year's SLIAC Outdoor Championships that was held this past weekend at Greenville University.

In addition, Webster's coaching staff, headed by Nick Niehaus and Dan Graber repeated as the SLIAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Gorloks to back-to-back league titles as they scored 258 points to outdistance runner-up Greenville by 88 points and Webster was also bestowed with the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award.

Sowers earns SLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year honors after winning a league-record six gold medals at the SLIAC Championships. At the SLIAC Championships, Sowers won gold medals in the 800-meters, 100 and 400-meter hurdles, pole vault and was a member of both the Webster's gold medal winning relay teams – 4-x-100-meter relay and the 4-x-400-meter relay. At the SLIAC Championships, Sowers tallied a total of 45 points at the meet thanks to her six first place finishes.

At the SLIAC Championships, Webster won a total of 10 events as along with Sowers' six gold medals, other gold medalists for the Gorloks included junior Jakara Davidson-Brooks (Sanford, Fla./Seminole), who won the 200-meter dash and was a member of the 4-x-100-meter relay team, sophomore Minnell Fundora (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson), who won the 1,500-meter run and was on the winning 4-x-400-meter relay team, junior Daisha Reece (Norman, Okla./Rogers State), who won the long jump and was on the winning 4-x-100-meter relay team and sophomore Johnae' Hightower (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit North), who repeated as the champion in the triple jump, junior Brittney Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood), who was on the 4-x-100-meter relay team and sophomore Kaleigh Finney (Concord, Calif./Northgate) and freshman Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse), who were both on the winning 4-x-400-meter relay team.

The league's other individual award winners announced on Tuesday were Fontbonne's Raven Venegas, who was named the SLIAC Field Athlete of the Year, while her sister, Jillian Venegas was named the SLIAC Women's Field Newcomer of the Year and Greenville's Cayden Sharp was named the SLIAC Women's Track Newcomer of the Year.

Raven Venegas earned the SLIAC Field Athlete of the Year award after winning three medals at the SLIAC Championships, including taking home a gold medal in the shot put. In addition, she was second in the discus behind her sister and third in the hammer throw.

Jillian Venegas earned the SLIAC Field Newcomer of the Year after winning the gold medal in the discus at the SLIAC Championships and finishing the Top 5 in three events this spring among conference student-athletes.

Sharp took home the SLIAC Track Newcomer of the Year accolade after winning the gold medal in the 100-meter dash and high jump and earning a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles and ran on the Panthers 4-x-100-meter relay team that took home second place behind Webster.
