SUNSET HILLS, Mo. - The 2019 Gorlok Open saw golfers greeted by sunny skies and warm conditions here on Monday, May 20 at Sunset Country Club. Thirty-two teams of foursomes signed up for the major fundraising event annually for Webster University Athletics.
Prior to prior to hitting the course for 18 holes of golf, the golfers were treated to lunch and a 'goodie' bag before teeing off in a shotgun start at 12 p.m. After playing 18 holes on the Sunset Country Club course, the participants concluded the event by lounging on the Sunset patio as an array of appetizers, cheeses, vegetables, prime rib, various deserts, and their favorite libation, awaited them.
The 25th-Annual Gorlok Open which was sponsored once again by Paric, Sodexo and Follett, was once again a big success in raising funds for the Webster Athletics Department, according to
Jordan Olufson, who is Webster's head women's basketball coach and the director of the Gorlok Open.
"It was a another successful Gorlok Open for Webster University Athletics and I would like to thank everyone that attended this year for their continued support of Webster University Athletics," Olufson said.
Among the major sponsors for this year's Gorlok Open were Paric Corporation (fairway greens), Follett (lunch sponsor) and Sodexo (dinner sponsor).
The hole sponsors for this year's Gorlok Open included Webster Groves Subaru-Isuzu, Travel Plex, Michael Sansone and Tony Sansone, Jr., and Canon Design.
A foursome from Follett won the 'A' Flight with a score of 57 on the afternoon. The members of the winning team included Dave Nikolasu, Dean Frankiewicz, Jim Boehmer and Terry Maringy. Dynamic Controls' foursome of Jeff Byrd, Rick Gerger, Jamie Barada and Ed Strouth finished second in the 'A' Flight with a 59. In the 'B' Flight, Sodexo's foursome of Octavio Pino, John Costello, Rob Parent and Rick Parent finished first with a 68 and TIAA-CREF's foursome of Robert Huck, Jack Hale, Justin Volkmar and Matt Pitzer was second in Flight 'B' with a 69.
The event also featured several contests throughout the day as there was a Closest to the Pin on the 13th hole, a longest drive contest on the 18th hole and a putting contest. The winners of the closest to pin contest were Nick Heyl, while, Joe Sharamitaro and Kay Barnes won the longest drive contest and the putting contest was won by Chris Pollnow.
