FENTON, Mo. - Webster University began its season long three match homestand here Tuesday by posting a dominating 7-0 shutout victory over Illinois College in non-conference women's soccer action at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
With the win, Webster improves to 4-2 overall on the season and moves to 2-0 at home, while Illinois College falls to 4-2 on the year.
The Gorloks, who posted its first shutout of the 2019 season, held a 53-1 edge in shots and received goals from four different players, including a first-ever career collegiate hat trick from sophomore forward
Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) to post the victory and improve to 13-0 all-time against the Lady Blues. The hat trick by Lande was the second of the season by a Gorlok and the 56th all-time in the program's 21-year history.
In addition to Lande's three goals, senior midfielder
Savannah Page (Sandy, Utah/Jordan), who was the featured player on the cover of Tuesday's match, added two goals and an assist, while senior forward
Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) added two assists and goal for four points to push her career total to 119 points, which is sixth on the school's all-time charts and freshman defender
Reaghan Young (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) tallied her first career goal.
Young got the scoring started nearly two minutes into the match on Tuesday as she took a pass from Kasper and scored from seven yards out.
Kasper gave the Gorloks a 2-0 lead early in the 21st minute as she connected on a shot from five yards out off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Jordan Bilyeu (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh). The goal by Kasper was her fourth of the season and 38th of her career. The 38 goals are tied for eighth on the school's all-time list.
Lande would then score goals in the 26th and 44th minutes respectively to give the Gorloks a 4-0 lead at the half. Lande's first goal came off an assist from Page, while the second goal came off an assist from freshman forward
Mackenzie O'Neal (Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee).
Page would get into the scoring action in the 51st minute as she took a pass from Bilyeu and connected on a shot from 16 yards out to give the Gorloks a 5-0 lead.
Lande completed her hat trick in the 70th minute as she scored on a header off a pass from Kasper to give WU a 6-0 lead. With her three goals, Lande pushed her season total to six goals, which is second most on the team.
Page completed the scoring in the 75th minute as she took a pass from freshman midfielder
Sophia Lambiase (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V Champion) and connected from 17 yards out to give the Gorloks a 7-0 lead. The goal by Page pushed her team leading total to eight on the season and upped her career total to 19 goals.
The 52 shots are the most this season by the Gorloks and the most in a match since recording 60 shots in a 10-0 home win over Blackburn on Oct. 9, 2018.
Against the Lady Blues, 10 different Gorloks took shots, including Page recording a career high 13 shots, including putting eight of those 13 shots on goal. Page's 18 shots are tied for fourth most in a match in school history.
In addition to Page's 13 shots, Kasper took a career high nine shots, while Lande took eight shots, including five shots on goal. Senior midfielder
Olivia Osterhage (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) and sophomore midfielder
Ryleigh Grommet (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) each had seven shots. The seven shots by Grommet were a career high.
Ashley Brokow took the only shot of the night for the Lady Blues and that shot came late in the 18th minutes as IC played the final 72 minutes of the match without taking a shot as they were held without a shot in the second half.
Along with holding a 52-1 edge in shots, the Gorloks had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks and also had nine fouls to eight foul for IC.
Freshman
Taryn Banfield (Plano, Texas/Plano East) recorded her first career shutout in goal as she recorded one save in 90 minutes of action to move her record to 3-1-0 on the year.
Charlotte Crofton (4-2-0) took the loss in net for IC as she played 51-plus minutes and allowed five goals and made 11 shots, while Savannah Henson played 38-plus minutes and allowed two goals and made eight shots.
The Gorloks will continue its three match homestand on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they host Rose-Hulman (3-2-0) in a 1 p.m. non-conference match at WWT Soccer Park.
