Women's Tennis Posts 9-0 Home Win Over Fontbonne

WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Women's Tennis continued its strong play at home here Tuesday evening as the Gorloks posted a dominating 9-0 shutout win over Fontbonne in a non-conference match at Webster Groves Tennis Center.

With the win, Webster improves to 2-2 on the fall season, while Fontbonne falls to 0-3. 

In Tuesday's match, which came three days after the Gorloks picked up an 8-1 home win on Saturday over Oakland City, the Gorloks won 97 of the 11 games played, including winning the Top 3 singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 set scores. 

In fact, in singles play, Webster lost just 14 of the 87 games played. 

The Gorloks opened Tuesday's match by winning all three doubles matches as they won 24 of the 25 doubles games overall with FBU winning its only game at the No. 3 spot as freshman Elizabeth Hill (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) and sophomore Navone Armstrong (St. Louis, Mo./McCluer North) won 8-1 over FBU's tandem of Alexis Bracken and Josephine Bahr. 

WU won the other two doubles matches by identical 8-0 scores, including the No. 1 team of freshman Erin Brezovar (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and senior Maggie Federhofer (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) winning their second consecutive match at the No. 1 spot and improving to 2-2 on the season.

At the No. 2 spot, sophomore Emma Ferguson (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) and junior Alyssa Tourville (Belleville, Ill./Kaskaskia College) won 8-0 over Sarah Johnson and Emily Bay. 

Meanwhile, in singles action, freshman Katarina Serbentas (Iron River, Mich./West Iron County) improved to 3-1 on the season as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot over Chloe Loehr. 

Brezovar improved to 2-2 in singles with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Jordan Sampson at the No. 2 spot, while freshman Lauren Bodlovic (Missoula, Mont./Loyola Sacred Heart) earned her first career collegiate singles win as she won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot over Johnson. 

The closest and most contested singles match came at the No. 4 spot as freshman Lauren Denny (O'Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) battled through two hard fought sets with Bracken as Denny won her first career collegiate singles match by scores of 7-5 and 6-4. 

Freshman Emily Casey (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) won by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores at the No. 5 singles spot in her first career collegiate match, while Hill won her first career match in singles as she posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot over Bahr. 

The Gorloks will close out its spring schedule this coming Saturday, Sept. 21 as they host NCAA Division II foe Truman State at the Webster Groves Tennis Complex for a 10 a.m. match.
