WEBSTER GROVES – Throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, the Webster University Athletics Department will feature Gorlok senior student-athletes. The senior student-athletes were asked 21 questions about their time at Webster, which will help everyone get the chance to know them as individuals and how much they've grown during their time as a Gorlok student-athlete.
The Senior Spotlight feature is scheduled to run every Monday and Friday until all the senior student-athletes have been profiled.
Our 11th Senior Spotlight features senior men's soccer midfielder
Hunter Olaso (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii/Kealakehe).
- What is your name? What sport(s) do you play? Hunter Olaso, Men's Soccer.
- What is your major? International Business major.
- How many years have you been a student at Webster? This is my fourth year at Webster.
- What attracted you to attend school and compete in athletics at Webster University? Webster had my desired major and the opportunity to play college soccer.
- What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I plan to try and work abroad, if not, move West to be closer to home.
- What has been your favorite class at Webster and why? My favorite class has been the Italian language classes I was able to take by freshman and sophomore years at Webster.
- What is your most memorable athletic moment at Webster? My most memorable athletic moment at Webster would be my last minute goal against Illinois College during my sophomore year in 2018.
- What is your most memorable/best academic experience at Webster? Hands down the best academic experience I had at Webster was studying abroad in Italy in the Spring of 2019.
- Outside of sports, what is your favorite hobby or activity? Outside of sports my favorite hobbies include working out and if I'm at home, going to beach with my friends and hiking.
- What is your favorite food? Movie? Book? TV show? My favorite food is pizza, my favorite movie is Top Gun, my favorite book is The Legend of the Monk and the Merchant and my favorite television show is The Office.
- What is your pet peeve? When you're having a conversation with someone and they exit the conversation after they're finished talking, without listening to what you have to say.
- Would you consider yourself a morning or a night person? I am definitely naturally a night person, but I can be a morning person if I get into a groove.
- What is your typical pre-match meal? Depending on what time the game is, I'll usually have something filling, but light, like oatmeal with a couple of bananas and peanut butter.
- What is your typical game day ritual? The only game day rituals that have stayed consistent throughout the years would be listening to my "Game Day" playlist before the game. I like to listen to it in the locker room and visualize before the game. Other than that, I usually call my parents before and after every games, after all they were my first coaches.
- What Webster University faculty or staff member has had the greatest impact on you and why? The Webster staff member who has had the greatest impact on me was Martin Fields, our athletic trainer. I've spent the most time with him besides our coaches, due to injuries and recovery processes. My prayers are with him and his family as he recovers during his difficult medical time.
- What do you enjoy most and least about practice? I enjoy the opportunity to get better every day and the opportunity to play the game I love at practice. What I enjoy least at practice would be conditioning, but that is part of the games and makes you better so you learn to love the grind.
- What advice would you give to underclassmen at Webster University? I'd say be patient and stay hungry. Not everything's going to go the way you think it will, all you can do is work hard, be patient, and stay hungry everyday.
- If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be and why? That's a hard question because I love music so much and I listen to so many different genres of music everyday. I get sick of a song if I listen to it back-to-back in quick succession, so I'd rather not listen to any one song on repeat forever, because I love music too much and wouldn't want to get sick of any song.
- What is a funny story that you can tell about your coach or about your team that people might not know? Last year for our team end of the year celebration, we as a team went to play laser tag. About half-way through the hour we had one of the workers tell half of us to go up to a loft about two stories high, as soon as, we got up there the floor broke and we all plummeted down. It put quite a damper on our banquet and wasn't funny at the time, but looking back at it, it's definitely a funny story to tell now and something I'll never forget.
- What is something that people may not know about you, but should? I love to eat. It sounds pretty basic, but it's true. I'm always hungry and the majority of my disposable income goes to food.
- f you could spend an hour with three people (past or present), who would you choose and why? My grandma who passed away five years ago, my grandpa who I never got to talk to, but hear so much about, and Leo Messi.
