WEBSTER GROVES – Throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, the Webster University Athletics Department will feature Gorlok senior student-athletes. The senior student-athletes were asked 21 questions about their time at Webster, which will help everyone get the chance to know them as individuals and how much they've grown during their time as a Gorlok student-athlete.
The Senior Spotlight feature is scheduled to run every Monday and Friday until all the senior student-athletes have been profiled.
Our 15th Senior Spotlight features senior competitive cheerleading co-captain Cat Boren (Byrnes Mill, Mo./Rockwood Summit).
- What is your name? What sport(s) do you play? Cat Boren, Competitive Cheerleading.
- What is your major? Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies - basically a history teacher!
- How many years have you been a student at Webster? This is my fourth year at Webster.
- What attracted you to attend school and compete in athletics at Webster University? Webster is close to my parent's house, but far enough to have my own space. The cheer team seemed so nice and open to new team members.
- What are your plans after graduation? I plan to stay in Missouri for about a year anf then move to a new place! Not sure on where though!
- What has been your favorite class at Webster and why? My favorite class I have taken at Webster was my Secondary Methods course. The professor was a principal at a local high school, and he was great at telling real life strategies to use in the classroom.
- What is your most memorable athletic moment at Webster? When our team got to cheer on and watch both the men's and women's basketball teams win both of its SLIAC Tournament titles last season.
- What is your most memorable/best academic experience at Webster? I received my first straight A's in my entire schooling experience this past semester.
- Outside of sports, what is your favorite hobby or activity? I enjoy working out and playing video games.
- What is your favorite food? Movie? Book? TV show? My favorite food is cinnamon rolls, my favorite movie is Home Alone, my favorite book is Maze Runner and my favorite television show is Bob's Burgers.
- What is your pet peeve? Rude people.
- Would you consider yourself a morning or a night person? I am a night person.
- What is your typical pre-game meal? Iced coffee and cereal.
- What is your typical game day ritual? I get ready fully at home except my lipstick. When I get to Webster and after we stretch is when I put it on. It always feels much smoother when I do it that way!
- What Webster University faculty or staff member has had the greatest impact on you and why? My coach Justin Barton has had the biggest impact on me. Without him, I would've not made it up to my Senior year. He's helped me through financial hardships, friend and family issues, and so much more.
- What do you enjoy most and least about practice? My favorite about practice is when we all warm up together in the beginning. My least favorite is when we must repeat our routines over and over again.
- What advice would you give to underclassmen at Webster University? Get involved! Webster is a small school, so the sooner you get involved the better.
- If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be and why? September by Earth, Wind and Fire.
- What is a funny story that you can tell about your coach or about your team that people might not know? Whenever a bad/funny picture is taken of someone, we meme it and send it to each other on GroupMe. They can get pretty bad, I have been a victim multiple times.
- What is something that people may not know about you, but should? I am shy at first, but when you get to know me, I won't ever leave you alone.
- If you could spend an hour with three people (past or present), who would you choose and why? One of my grandpas, because I never met them! I want to know what they were like and their personality; Abraham Lincoln, because I would want to see how he feels about today's society and JonBenét Ramsey, because I would want to know what happened to her. That is one of the biggest mysteries.
