Women's Track and Field Wins SLIAC Indoor Championships, Reece Named Field Athlete of the Year

ELSAH, Ill. – Webster University has won two consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles in outdoor track and now the Gorloks can add an SLIAC title in indoor track to its trophy case as the Gorloks claimed the championship at the inaugural SLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Jim Crafton Track Complex on the Principia College campus.

At this year's championship meet, the Gorloks scored a total of 212 points outdistance runner-up Greenville University by 63 points and third place Fontbonne University, who scored a total of 25 points.

In Saturday's meet, the Gorloks won seven events, set five new school records and had 11 season best performances in 15 of the events they competed.

Two of the biggest stars on Saturday for the Gorloks were senior Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla), who brought home two gold medals in the 800-meters and pole vault and when paired with her outdoor track performances has now won a total of 17 gold medals in her career and senior Daisha Reece (Norman, Okla./Rogers State) took home a gold medal in the long jump and was runner-up in the high jump and 60-meter dash.

In the 800 meter run, Sowers recorded a school record time of 2:19.22 to place first and in the pole vault, she was first with a mark of 2.88 meters (9'5.25") and ran the anchor leg of Webster's 4-x-400-meter relay that posted a time of 4:20.43.

Meanwhile, Reece took home the SLIAC Field Athlete of the Year as she set new school records in the long jump (18'3.75"), high jump (5'1.75") and 60-meter dash (8.05).
