2010s All-Decade Teams: Men's Soccer

Over the next several weeks, Webster University Athletics Department will be releasing its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s. For a full schedule of the teams set to be released, click here.
 
WEBSTER GROVES – Webster University Athletics is set to begin its unveiling of its All-Decade Teams from the 2010s as it compiles the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) in each of Webster's intercollegiate athletic teams. Our second team to be unveiled is the 2010-19 All-Decade Men's Soccer Team.
 
During the decade, the Gorloks, who began the 2010s with SLIAC and Webster Hall of Famer Marty Todt as the head coach and ended the decade with former player Mike Siener as the head coach, won three consecutive regular season St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season titles from 2012-14, including winning the 2012 SLIAC Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth time in the program's history. Along with taking home three regular season league titles and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2012, the Gorloks earned 108 victories and posted a 108-68-21 overall record and went 61-18-8 in league play. Over the final three years of the decade (2017-19), the Gorloks went 37-14-7 and posted a 18-6-3 mark in league play. In addition, Webster won at least six matches in SLIAC play in seven of 10 seasons in the decade.
 
Along with their success on the field, that success also brought recognition for Webster's players as 21 of the 22 players on the All-Decade Team earned All-SLIAC honors as combined 36 times, including earning first team honors 18 times and one player, Justin Schmidt, earned All-SLIAC honors four times, including three first team selections from 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition, the players also earned All-Region honors six times and a total of six SLIAC Player of the Year accolades. Among the Player of the Year accolades were Schmidt being the league's Defensive Player of the Year in both 2017 and 2018, while three different Gorloks earned Offensive Player of the Year honors.
 
One of the All-Decade Team members, Jeff Wallner, was named a CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American in 2013 and the All-Decade players selected earned a combined 17 SLIAC Player of the Week accolades from 2010-19.
 
Listed below are the 22-member Webster Athletics Men's Soccer Team of the Decade for the 2010s. Players are listed alphabetically by position.
 
Goalkeepers
Matt Amick (St. Louis, Mo. – 2017-present)
Over the past three years to close out the decade, Amick has been a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors as a sophomore in 2018. Along with the two All-SLIAC accolades, Amick was a Third-Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection in 2018 and earned two SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades. In goal over the past three years, Amick has played in 31 matches and made 22 starts and has allowed just 20 goals and has recorded 132 saves and posted 15.1 shutouts, including a single season school record tying 11 saves in 2018. In 2018, he recorded a career high 14 saves against Greenville and those 14 saves are tied for third on the school's single game charts. He enters the 2020 campaign first on the school's all-time list in goals against average (0.69), third in career saves per game (4.26) and career save percentage (.868) and is fourth in goalie games played (31) and tied for fourth in goalie wins with 18 as he is 18-7-3 as a Gorlok.
 
Brian Woodward (Eureka, Mo. – 2011-14)
In his four years with the Gorloks from 2011-14, Woodward was a two-time All-SLIAC selection in 2012 and 2013 and earned first team honors in 2012. Along with his two All-SLIAC honors, Woodward was also a four-time SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, including winning three times in 2012 and was a two-time recipient of the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Award. In goal, he played in 56 matches and made 42 starts and recorded a 27-16-6 record and allowed 67 goals and tallied 196 saves and has had 15.3 shutouts, which is second most in school history. On the school's all-time charts, Woodward holds the school record for career wins (27) and goalie games played (56) and is second in career goalie games started (42) and third in career saves (196). His 13 wins in 2013 are second most in single season history and his 6.2 shutouts in 2013 is tied for eighth on the single season chart.
 
Defenders
Michael Dennis (Carbondale, Ill. – 2009-12)
Dennis, who played three of his four years at Webster in the decade, was named an All-SLIAC selection in 2012 and was a three-time member of the SLIAC Fall Academic Team in 2010, 2011 and 2012. During his time as a Gorloks, he played in 63 matches and made 39 starts, including playing in 51 matches and starting 36 matches during the decade. He was a strong defender as in his time, he was a member of a Webster defensive unit that allowed 77 goals and recorded 21 shutouts from 2010-12, including 10 shutouts in 2012. The 10 shutouts are tied for fifth on the school's single season chart. Along with his defensive skills, he also scored a goal and had two assists for four points and tallied six career shots and was 1-for-2 on penalty kicks.
 
Dylan Jannin (Perryville, Mo. – 2017-present)
Jannin is the second of five current Gorloks on the All-Decade Team as he has played the last three years and is entering his senior year in 2020. In his career at Webster, he has played in 56 matches and has made 44 starts, including playing in 38 of Webster matches the last two seasons. Has been a key member of Webster's defense that over the past three seasons that has allowed a total of 48 goals and has posted 30 shutouts, including a single season school record 15 shutouts in 2018. The 2018 team opened the season by posting a school record seven consecutive shutouts.
 
Cameron Killian (St. Louis, Mo. – 2017-present)
Another current member of the Gorlok men's soccer team on the All-Decade Team, Killian earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors in 2018 and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team as a freshman in 2017. Additionally, he also earned a SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade in 2018. Over the past three years, Killian has played 58 matches and made 51 starts, including starting in and playing all 18 matches in 2019. He has been a key member of a Webster defense that has allowed a total of 48 goals and has posted 30 shutouts, including a single season school record 15 shutouts in 2018 over the past three seasons. The 2018 team opened the season by posting a school record seven consecutive shutouts.
 
Justin Schmidt (St. Louis, Mo. – 2016-19)
Perhaps one of the top defensive players in school history, Schmidt played all four years in the decade and in those four seasons, he was named a four-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors in three consecutive seasons from 2017, 2018 and 2019. Along with his four All-SLIAC honors, he was also named the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year in both 2017 and 2018 and is one of five players in school history to be a four-time All-Conference selection. Additionally, he was a two-time Second-Team USC All-Region selection, a three-time SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team honoree, a USC Third-Team Division III Scholar All-American in 2018. During his four years with the Gorloks, Schmidt played in 65 matches and made 64 starts and those 64 starts are tied for second on the school's all-time list. On defense, he was the anchor of a Webster defense that allowed a total of 79 goals in 76 matches and record a total of 34 shutouts. In the two years he was the Defensive Player of the Year, Webster held their opponents to just 34 goals and recorded 23 shutouts, including a school record 15 shutouts in 2018. Schmidt also scored two goals and had three assists for a total of seven points in his career.
 
Josh Sellmeyer (St. Louis, Mo. – 2009-12)
During the decade, Sellmeyer, who played three of four years to open the decade after beginning his career at Webster in 2009, was named a two-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2011 and 2012 and took home SLIAC Player of the Year honors in 2012. In addition, Sellmeyer, who is currently the men's associate head soccer coach for the Gorloks, was a Second-Team NSCAA All-Region selection and was a SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2011. Additionally, he was also a three-time member of the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team. In his time at Webster, he played in 69 games and made 61 starts and the 61 starts are sixth on the school's all-time chart. He was a strong defender as during his time with the Gorloks as he helped anchor a Webster defense that allowed 77 goals and record 21 shutouts from 2010-12, including 10 shutouts in 2012, which is tied for fifth on the school's single season chart. Sellmeyer also scored one goal, had one assist and took 22 shots in his career.
 
Jacob Stieb (Highland, Ill. – 2013-14)
In his two years at Webster, Stieb was a two-time All-SLIAC selection with both of those honors being first team selections in 2013 and 2014. Along with his two first team All-SLIAC selections, he was also a Third-Team NSCAA All-Region honoree, was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in both 2013 and 2014 and took home the first-ever SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year accolade as a senior in 2014. As a Gorlok, Stieb was an anchor on a Webster defense that won back-to-back regular season SLIAC championships and allowed a total of 50 goals and had 17 shutouts in 42 matches. The Gorloks went 16-1-1 in league play in Stieb's two years at Webster. He also scored two goals, both of which were game winning goals and took a total of 11 shots and had five shots on goal in his playing career.
 
Shea Vogt (St. Louis, Mo. – 2010-12)
In his three years at Webster, Vogt played in 55 matches and made 47 starts and was a First-Team All-SLIAC selection as a senior in 2012 and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2010. During his playing career, Vogt helped a Webster defensive unit that allowed 77 goals and recorded 21 shutouts from 2010-12, including 10 shutouts in 2012. The 10 shutouts are tied for fifth on the school's single season chart. Along with his defensive skills, he also scored four goals and had seven assists for a total of 15 points. He also took 33 shots, had 20 shots on goal and tallied one game winning goal, which came in 2012.
 
Jeff Wallner (Eureka, Mo. – 2011-14)
During the early part of the decade, Wallner, who played at Webster from 2011-14, was a two-time All-SLIAC selection in 2013 and 2014 and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2012 and 2013. In addition, he was a strong student in the classroom as he was a three-time member of the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team, a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2013 and a Third-Team CoSIDA Division III Academic All-American in 2013. He is one of five Gorlok student-athletes in school history to earn Academic All-American honors. In his career, he played in 68 matches and made 59 starts and those 59 starts are tied for 10th on the school's all-time charts. He was member of three consecutive SLIAC regular season championship teams from 2012 through 2014. Wallner also tallied five goals and eight assists for a total of 18 points in his career and took 61 shots and had 25 shots on goal.
 
Midfielders
Kris Brown (Wentzville, Mo. – 2013-14)
Brown played two years in the decade and in those two years, he earned All-SLIAC honors both seasons, including collecting a first team honor in 2013. Along with being a two-time All-SLIAC selection, he was also named a Defensive Player of the Week one time in 2013 as along with playing in the midfield, he also played as a defender for the Gorloks. He played in 39 matches and made 33 starts over two seasons and tallied six goals and had five assists for a total of 17 points. In addition, he recorded 51 shots, including 25 shots on goal and tallied two game winning goals, both of which came in 2013.
 
Carlos Espinosa (Eureka, Mo. – 2010-12)
Espinosa played the first years of the decade (2010-12) and in those three seasons, he was a First-Team All-SLIAC selection as a junior in 2012 and was tabbed to the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team in 2011 and 2012. In his time as a Gorlok, Espinosa played in 51 matches and made 25 starts, including playing in all 20 matches and making 15 starts in 2012. He scored 12 goals, had three assists and totaled 27 points in his career. Additionally, he took 64 shots, including 29 shots on goal and tallied five game winning goals. The five game winning goals are tied for 10th on the school's all-time list, while his three game winning goals in 2012 is tied for seventh on the school's single season chart.
 
Juan Garcia (St. Charles, Mo. – 2016-19)
Another four year player for the Gorloks, Garcia played the final four years of the decade and in those four years, he earned All-SLIAC honors in 2018 and was a SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team selection in 2017. In his time at Webster, he played in 71 matches and made 48 starts and tallied over 3,300 minutes of action. He scored nine goals and had four assists for a total of 22 points. In addition, he took 45 career shots, including putting 25 of those shots on goal and had three game winning goals and was a perfect 6-for-6 in his career on penalty kicks. As a junior in 2018, he scored six goals, which was second on the team.
 
Dino Music (St. Louis, Mo. – 2013-14, '16-17)
In the decade, Music, who served as an assistant soccer coach for the Gorloks in 2018, played four years for the Gorloks as he played in 2013 and 2014 and then again in 2016 and 2017 and in his time at Webster, he was a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors as a senior in 2017. As a Gorlok, Music played in 71 matches and made 41 starts, including playing in all 38 matches over his final two years and also tallied over 4,100 minutes of action. He scored nine goals and added eight assists for a total of 26 points. In his career, he took 70 shots and had 30 shots on goal and his 1,912 minutes of action in 2017 is tops on the school's single season chart.
 
Hunter Olaso (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii – 2017-present)
Olaso is one of five current Gorlok players to earn a spot on the All-Decade Team as he is entering his senior campaign in 2020. In his three years at Webster, he was named a Third-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2017 and has seen action in 46 matches and has made 40 starts. He has scored four goals and had six assists for 14 points in his career and has taken 55 shots and has tallied three game winning goals. Additionally, he has played a total of 3,396 minutes, including tallying 1,826 minutes as a freshman in 2017 and those 1,826 minutes played are second on the school's single season chart.
 
Mike Wells (Florissant, Mo. – 2012-14)
During the decade, Wells played three seasons and in those three seasons, he was an All-SLIAC selection all three years, including earning first team accolades in 2012 and 2014. Along with the three All-SLIAC accolades, he was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and a Third-Team NSCAA All-Region selection in 2014. Additionally, he was also a SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week once in 2013. In his time as a Gorlok, he played in 59 matches and made 49 starts and tallied 21 goals and had 15 assists for a total of 57 points. His 21 goals are tied for sixth on the school's all-time list, while his nine game winning goals are tied for second on the school's career chart. In addition, he 146 career shots are fifth on the school's all-time chart and his 57 points and 15 assists are tied for seventh on the school's all-time charts. Tallied 10 assists in 2014, which is tied for third on the school's single season chart, while his four game winning goals that same season are tied for fourth in single season history. He is tied for the school's single match record for assists as he had three at Eureka during the 2014 season and his three goals at North Central in 2014 are third for third on the single game chart.
 
Forwards
Clint Carder (DeSoto, Mo. – 2010-12)
Carder played the first three years in the decade and in those three seasons, he earned All-SLIAC honors all three years, including collecting first team accolades in 2010 and 2012. Along with being a three-time All-SLIAC honoree, Carder was named the co-SLIAC Player of the Year in 2010 and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2011. Additionally, he was four-time All-SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, including earning the honor twice in 2010. In his first season in 2010 with the Gorloks, he scored 15 goals and had four game winning goals and those marks are both tied for fourth on the school's single season chart. Over his three year career at Webster, Carder finished 29 career goals, had eight assists, 66 points, took 150 shots and had nine game winning goals. The nine game winning goals are tied for second on the school's all-time chart, while his 29 goals are third most in school history and his 150 shots are fourth on the school's career list.
 
Zach Gyuricza (Chicago, Ill. – 2015-16)
In his two seasons as a Gorlok from 2015-16, Gyuricza earned All-SLIAC honors as a freshman in 2015 and was also named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2015. He played in 36 matches and made 35 starts in two years at Webster and he tallied 13 goals, added eight assists and totaled 34 points. In addition, he took 79 shots and put 37 of those shots on goal and also played over 2,300 minutes. His 2.19 shots per game in his career are ninth on the school's all-time list, while his 21 starts in 2015 are tied for sixth on the school's single season chart. During the 2015 season, he recorded three assists against Iowa Wesleyan and those three assists are tied for most in a single match in school history.
 
Patrick McCaffery (St. Louis, Mo. – 2011-13)
During the decade, McCaffery played three seasons and earned All-SLIAC honors in 2013 and was the SLIAC Tournament MVP in 2012 after leading the Gorloks to a tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. In addition, he was a two-time SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. In his career, he played in 54 matches and made 49 starts and in those 54 matches, he scored 18 goals and had nine assists for a total of 45 points. Additionally, he took 88 career shots, had 46 shots on goal and scored six career game winning goals. His six game winning goals are tied for sixth on the school's career chart, while his 18 goals are tied for 13th in school history and the 45 points are 15th in school history.
 
Edin Mehmedovic (St. Louis, Mo. – 2017-19)
Mehmedovic played the final years of the decade for the Gorloks as he earned All-SLIAC honors in 2017 and 2019. In his time as a Gorlok, he played in 52 matches and made 40 starts. He scored eight career goals, had four career assists and totaled 20 points. Additionally, he took 60 shots, put 24 of those shots on goal and added five career game winning goals. His five career game winning goals are tied for 10th on the school's all-time list.
 
Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz. – 2018-present) 
Murvin finds his spot on the All-Decade Team after playing 38 matches over the last two seasons to close out the decade. Over the past two seasons, Murvin has earned back-to-back Second-Team All-SLIAC honors after scoring a total of 17 goals and collecting eight assists for a total of 42 points. Over the past two seasons, Murvin has led the Gorloks in goals, assists and points and the 17 goals are tied for 15th on the school's career chart. Along with the 17 goals, eight assists and 42 points, he has also taken 112 shots and put 49 of those shots on goal and has tallied seven game winning goals, which is fifth on the school's all-time chart. In a match last season at Blackburn, Murvin recorded six points and those six points are tied for 11th on the school's single match records.
 
Brendan Shields (St. Peters, Mo. – 2013-16)
Shields played four years in the middle of the decade as he lettered for the Gorloks from 2013-16 and in his time at Webster, he earned All-SLIAC honors in both 2014 and 2016. During his four years as a Gorlok, he played in 79 matches and made 58 starts and played a total of 3,375 minutes. In those 79 matches, which is tied for second on the school's all-time list, Shields scored 16 goals, added 10 assists and totaled 42 points. In addition, he took 152 shots and put 59 shots on goal and tallied five career game winning goals. His 152 career shots are third most in school history, while his five game winning goals are tied for 10th in school history.
