Message from AD to our Student-Athletes:
I hope you are all doing well, and you and your families are healthy and safe. We are obviously going through unprecedented times and I want to thank you for handling the COVID-19 situation with patience and positivity. We are excited to see our returning student-athletes and those of you who will be part of our program for the first time!
While we know Athletics will look very different this year, I wanted to update you on matters relating to Webster University as they pertain to Athletics. Provided below are links with greater details. Athletics has been working very closely with our University, CDC, St Louis County, the SLIAC, and The NCAA preparing a return to sports in the safest way possible. I wish I could give you definitive answers as to how the seasons will look, but the situation continues to be fluid and we continue to monitor and assess our plans and responses with every new development. I can reassure you that both the Athletics Department and Webster University are working very hard in the development of many contingency plans. Our primary focus is safety, which is necessary to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes.
- The University has several task forces that have been working hard over the PAST (4-5) months focused on planning for many areas related to safe return policies and procedures. I encourage you to visit Webster's COVID-19 resource page( www.webster.edu/covid19/) which is continuously updated regarding information and policies for you to review.
- Our athletics department in concert with the University, SLIAC, and NCAA guidelines have developed more stringent polices for our student-athletes. These policies include requiring additional daily temperature checks and symptoms questionnaire verification prior to every practice and travel to competitions.
- Working with the SLIAC office, we have developed a number of contingency plans regarding conference schedules.
- We will implement social distancing policies and have a three-phase plan in place at the start of the season. The phase-in plan will span three weeks. The facilities will be equipped with sanitization stations and equipment and facilities will be routinely sterilized.
- We will distribute to each student-athlete a triple layered washable cloth facemask with the Gorlok logo which provides both filtration and breathability.
- Our coaches will continue to update teams regarding any changes. Please see this notice regarding changes for some team sports by SLIAC and this notice regarding NCAA fall championship games. Continue to visit our Athletics website www.websterathletics.com for updated information.
I firmly believe that following the safety measures during Athletics participation will increase the probability of a safe return to practice and competition. I ask both student-athletes and parents' assistance as we move forward so that we all stress the importance of following the University's polices related to safe social distancing at all times – seven days a week and 24 hours a day - even when student-athletes are not under direct supervision of athletics staff.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions or concerns. We are looking forward to our students return and a safe year.
Sincerely,
Scott Kilgallon
Director of Athletics
