WEBSTER GROVES (8/20/20) – As a follow up to today's
St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announcement regarding the difficult unanimous decision by our SLIAC Presidents and Administrative Council to
"postpone all fall sport athletic contests, competitions, scrimmages and other shared athletic activities against outside competition of any classification or nature. The athletic teams on the SLIAC campuses will continue to be able to have team workouts, weight training, practices, sport-specific athletic activities, scrimmages, and leadership development within their own respective campus environment."
I know this is very difficult time for our student-athletes and want to reassure you that Webster University Athletics along with support from our Administration will be shifting our focus to provide our student-athletes with the best possible experience with team practices ensuring safety measures are in place. Our guiding purpose now is, along with providing robust practices, will be focused on leadership development opportunities, team building activities, strength and condition sessions, and to keep our student-athletes connected to further build team comradery outside of practice as we work together during these difficult times.
The majority of our Athletics staff are former student-athletes who understand how important the student-athlete experience is and we obviously feel for our student-athletes who are going through these unprecedented and tough times. Our commitment is to work hard to provide the best possible experience under current restrictions for our teams. We understand Athletics participation provides other benefits related to building of friendships, mental health, and a support system for academic success as well as positive individual development. This will be our commitment moving forward.
Sincerely,
Scott Kilgallon
Director of Athletics
