WEBSTER GROVES – Webster University Baseball saw overwhelming success over the past decade as between 2010 and 2019, the Gorloks tallied a 343-125 overall record, posted a 199-29 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, made four NCAA Division III World Series appearances, won five regional championships, one Super Regional title, advanced to the NCAA Tournament nine times in 10 years, won 10 straight SLIAC regular season titles and seven SLIAC Tournament titles. During those 10 years, Webster had numerous outstanding players come through the program and two of those players were honored Wednesday on the 2010's All-Decade Team announced by D3Baseball.com.
The Gorloks that were named to the D3Baseball.com 2010's All-Decade Team were starting pitcher Josh Fleming (2015-17) and designated hitter Kyle Uhrich (2015-17). Fleming was named to the Second Team, while Uhich was a Third-Team selection. In their three years at Webster, the Gorloks went 91-45 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament two times and played in the 2015 Division III World Series. Fleming and Uhich combined to earn three All-American honors, five All-Central Region honors, six All-SLIAC selections, including five first team honors and take two NCAA Division III National Statistical championships.
The D3Baseball.com 2010's All-Decade Team features a total of 82 players representing a total of 56 schools. The All-Decade Team consists of three teams and honorable mentions and the players were assembled from the list of All-Americans, All-Region and record setting players who played at least two years in the decade and the teams were selected by the D3Baseball.com staff and their friends at The Podcast About Division III Baseball.
Webster was one of 12 schools to have multiple players selected to the All-Decade Team from D3Baseball.com. Southern Maine led the way with five overall selections, while Birmingham-Southern had four selections and 10 other programs had two or more honorees.
Fleming, who made his MLB debut this past Sunday as he tossed five innings and earned the win on the mound for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Toronto Blue Jays, was named a Second-Team All-Decade selection after making 33 appearances, 31 starts, compiling a 19-5 record and tallying a 1.91 career ERA. Along with that, he tossed 11 complete games, four shutouts and in 211.2 innings, he allowed 177 hits, 62 runs, 45 earned runs, while striking out 251 and walking 29. He holds the school's career marks for ERA (1.91), most career strikeouts per 9 innings (10.67), most career shutouts (4) and was tied for second in career complete games with 251. Fleming also holds single season pitching records in complete game (8 in 2017) and strikeouts (115 in 2017) and was the NCAA Division III National Statistical champion for ERA in 2017 as he recorded a single season school record of 0.68, which is currently tied for 15th on the all-time NCAA Division III career chart.
During his three year career as a Gorlok, Fleming, who was a fifth round pick (139th overall selection) of the Rays in the 2017 MLB Draft and was recently named Webster's Baseball Pitcher of the Decade, was a three-time All-SLIAC selection, including being a first team selection in both 2015 and 2017. Along with being a three-time All-SLIAC selection, the left-hander was named the D3Baseball.com National Pitcher of the Year in 2017 and that same year, he was also a First-Team ABCA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com All-American. Additionally, he was also a two-time ABCA/Rawlings All-Region selection, earned First-Team D3Baseball.com All-Region honors in both 2015 and 2017 and was named the Central Region Pitcher of the Year in 2017 by both the ABCA and D3Baseball.com. In 2017, he was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Year and was also named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team and earned a spot in the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in both 2015 and 2017.
Uhrich was named a Third-Team All-Decade selection by D3Baseball.com after playing in and making 135 career starts and posted a .326 career batting average. In his career, he recorded 170 hits, scored 99 runs, hit 38 doubles, six triples, 34 home runs and tallied 140 RBI. Additionally, he drew 45 walks and was 9-for-14 in stolen bases. Uhrich holds the school's all-time record in home runs (34) and also holds the school's single season mark for home runs with 17 in 2015 en route to earning an NCAA Division III National Statistical championhsip and is also is tied for the school's single game record with three home runs against Principia in 2016. He also is tied for the school's single game mark for hits (5 at Blackburn in 2016), doubles (3 at Eureka in 2016) and his 6 RBI in 2017 against Greenville is sixth on the school's single game chart. Along with holding the school's all-time mark for home runs, he is also second in career RBI (140), second in career putouts (766), third in career slugging percentage (.617), third in career total bases (322), tied for fifth in career triples (6), sixth in career at-bats (522), seventh in carrer doubles (38), eighth in career hits (170) and his 63 RBI in 2015 is tied for second on the single season chart.
Along with his hitting prowess, Uhrich also was strong on the mound for the Gorloks in his three seasons as he made 25 appearances and six starts in his career and in 2017, he made 18 appearances and was 7-3 with a 2.29 ERA and recorded two complete games and had four saves. In 69 innings in 2017, he allowed 26 hits, 18 runs, 15 earned runs, while walking 25 and fanning 90. The 90 strikeouts are fourth most in a single season in school history and he also is tied for the school's single game record for strikeouts as he recorded 16 at Westminster (Mo.) in 2017. During the 2017 season, he took home the NCAA Division III National Statistical championship for K's per 9 innings.
During his three year career, Uhrich, who was named Webster's Baseball Player of the Decade recently, was a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection and a five All-American as he earned Second-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American honors in 2015 and 2017 and was a three-time D3Baseball.com All-All-American as he was a first team selection in 2017, a third team honoree in 2016 and an honorable mention selection in 2015. He was also a three-time All-Central Region selection by both ABCA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com as he earned first team accolades from the ABCA in both 2017 and 2015 and second team honors from the ABCA in 2016 and was a three-time first team honoree from D3Baseball.com. He earned four SLIAC/Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week honors, including two honors in 2017 and was also a two-time SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week during the 2017 season.
