ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled across town to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks tied the Griffins by a final score of 1-1 to improve to 9-3-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the tie, the Griffins move to 8-2-2 on the season and 7-0-2 in conference play.
The Gorloks were outshot 29-7 in the game and put five shots on target compared to 14 from the Griffins. The Griffins also controlled the corner count as they finished with six while the Gorloks had two.
It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as
Jennifer Munger was able to find the back of the net for the third time this season.
Mackenzie O'Neal had the assist for the Gorloks, her fourth of the year. However, their lead did not last long as the Griffins converted a penalty kick just 12 minutes late to tie the score at one.
Despite both teams having several scoring chances throughout the remainder of regulation and overtime, neither team was able to find the back of the net and game finished in a 1-1 draw.
Jaqlyn Ferguson and
Hope Dedic led the way for the Gorloks as they each finished with two shots in the contest.
Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as she recorded a season high 13 saves in the tie.
The women's soccer team will be back on the field on Saturday, October 16
th when they play host to the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to kick-off at 1 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
