Gorloks Defeat Stars in Tip-Off Classic

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back on the court tonight when they played host to the Dominican (Ill.) University Stars in their first game of the 2021 Webster Tip-Off Classic. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Stars by a final score of 91-48 to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the loss, the Stars fall to 0-1 on the year.

Tonights win marked win number 200 for Head Coach Jordan Olufson. The all-time winningest coach in Webster Women's Basketball history has an overall record of 200-128 in 13 seasons at the helm. 

The Gorloks shot the ball well in this one as they went 36-for-70 (51.4%) from the floor and 5-for-19 (26.3%) from behind the arc. They forced the Stars to turn the ball over 34 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 35 points on the other end. The Gorloks were outrebounded 39-30 in the game while dishing out 19 assists compared to six from the Stars.

Webster came out in the first quarter and dominated the game from the start. They jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and held a 13-5 lead midway through the frame. They continued to push the tempo and were able to take a 19-7 lead into the second. The Gorloks quickly extended their lead to 19 in the second quarter and then went on a 21-12 run to take a 47-19 lead into the locker room.

The Stars came out in the third quarter and were able to cut the Gorloks lead down to 18. However, another run from Webster put them up 64-38 heading into the fourth. Webster never took their foot off the gas in the game and cruised to a 43-point victory.

Addison Beussink led the Gorloks in scoring tonight as she finished with a team high 13 points. In addition to Beussink, Emily Wilson finished with 12 while Kate Rolfes and Julie Baudendistel both added 11. Hannah Cottrell and Emily Kuntze both finished with a team high four assists while Emily Ederer added a team high seven rebounds to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.

Webster returns to the court tomorrow, November 13th when they play their second game of the 2021 Webster Tip-Off Classic against Lake Forest (Ill.) College. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
