ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to Missouri Baptist University to take on the Spartans in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by a final score of 82-54 to fall to 0-2 on the season. With the win, the Spartans improve to 3-2 on the year.
The Gorloks went 22-for-54 (40.7%) from the floor and 1-for-15 from behind the arc (6.7%). They were outrebounded 37-32 and turned the ball over 14 times compared to just 12 turnovers from the Spartans.
Webster came out in the first half and found themselves trailing 7-2 in the first few minutes of the game. They settled in as the half progressed and were able to go on an 8-0 run to take a 10-7 lead in the contest. The Spartans answered back and went on a 16-1 run of their own to take a 23-11 lead midway through the half. Missouri Baptist continued to play well down the final stretch of the half and took a 40-31 lead into the locker room.
The Gorloks came out in the second half and were able to cut the Spartans lead to eight early in the frame. However, the Spartans were able to extend their lead back out to 16 over the next few minutes and never let Webster back into the game as they cruised to their third win of the season.
Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a game high 14 points to go along with three steals. In addition to Brown Jr.,
Stephen Hawkins finished with 10 points, while
Karl Moore Jr. added seven points and a game high 11 rebounds.
Webster will return to the court on Tuesday, November 16
th when they play host to the Washington (Mo.) University Bears in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
